It isn't as obvious as the classic series, it seems to be a nod to it if anything; but still I was excited!

It shouldn't be blatantly obvious. If anything, I was impressed that the new series has demonstrated any kind of understanding of subtlety in any capacity at all. They deserve credit for this.
