Actually, I take that back. The first series with Eccleston as the Doctor was much darker and more "Doctor Who"-like than the show is now. There were hints of the show's current feel, but overall the show was much less cheery.

When Tennant arrived, something changed. I'm not sure if it's Tennants fault, RTD's fault, or if someone higher up in the chain decided that DW needed to start catering to the lowest common demoninator, but whatever happened, suddenly humans were 'wonderful', science was magic and the Daleks started philosophising.

I think RTD is trying to squeeze bits of the old Doctor in there (the end of Family of Blood, for example), but one gets the feeling that he's being restricted by something (or someone). I think, ultimately, this is why Torchwood has turned out so well; It's an outlet for what RTD wants to do with Doctor Who, but can't.

You say that this series of Torchwood is better than last series so far, well I'd like to point out that RTD isn't writing any of the episodes for this series of Torchwood.

Personally, I think an optimistic Doctor is better than a pessimistic Doctor. I mean, he's been through so much that it's about time to take it all with a smile sometimes.
Also, I think his attitude towards humans could be based on this: "Sure humans are dumb but who WASN'T at their point? They're a lot better than the Vulcans were..."
It may have taken regeneration to realize that but I think that's what it is. :P ...Even if there aren't any Vulcans in Doctor Who...
But I do agree with how merciful he seems to be. I thought he'd gotten over that... But that's by no means anything new.
Just look at Genesis of the Daleks.

When I talk about Torchwood, I'm talking about Torchwood in general. If I was referencing Series 2, I would have said, 'Torchwood Series 2.'

I'm pretty sure if I was in his position I would have erased the Earth from history as soon as the Time Lords were out of the way.

Well the bit that stuck out most was "too make it modern".

RTD's made it more modern and therefore for a newer younger audience.

I know Classic fans love Dr.Who the way it was but it annoys me sometimes listen to them complain on podcasts. I think they should learn to like it and get over the fact it different!

I speak what I think. RTD speaks for a while in that video, but Dave Ross starts to talk over him so its a bit harder to hear! Plus i've seen the whole interview before on Confidential or something!

Part of the video is stupid, we see plenty of on screen deaths in new who. There were a few off screen deaths in classic Who, for example the killer's brother in Pyamids on Mars.

Was there blood in the Classic Series as there are the tiniest drops in the New Series!

Also, we saw plenty of Cybermen get killed in the new series, and we see the Cybermen ruthlessly killing people. We saw Eccleston torture a Dalek, and Eccleston insulted humans on at least 2 occasions. "I've picked another stupid ape," "these stupid people have only just learnt how to walk.

A lot of the content of this video is taken out of context. There certainly is death and action in the new series.

Yes, but most of the time, they prefer to do off screen deaths. Also, the fact that there were "a few" off screen deaths in the old series means nothing -- sometimes it can be done stylistically, to great effect.

I have plenty of appreciation for the old series. I just think that video was very bad and ignored the fact that a lot of the "differences" that were pointed out were taking out of context. If I was any good at video making and had the patience I would prove him wrong on action, violence, death and opinions on humans.
