I can sympathize with that. That's why you shouldn't read the threads that don't interest you. I used to visit threads that bothered me or went against my viewpoint and I tried to convince people otherwise (on other boards) but now I just stay away from them because it doesn't do them or me any good.

Or maybe because I'm a senior in high school and I have between one and three hours of homework each night, and maybe even a bit of a social life, and I have to work on college applications most days, and I have the time to post quick responses to other people's forum posts but not to write complete posts for an RPG.

Oh, no, never mind, you're probably right. My caring doesn't reach past downloading new Doctor Who episodes and endorsing free and open source software. It's not like I created an entire internet community for some people to meet others with similar interests and make new friends to talk about the things they loved, the passions they shared, and the problems they had in everyday life. Why don't you ask Chris how much I care about other people and see what he says? Or Ross even? Or maybe some of my friends? Because I think you'll get a very different answer than the conclusion you just jumped to.

Because I'm one of them. I help with Linux's development as well. And there are so many different versions of Linux -- not all of them could have that even if it did exist, which it doesn't. And since the code is available for everyone to view, someone would notice if there was something like that in there. The entire world's not evil and out to get you, and there isn't some gigantic coverup involving the millions of people who use Linux all out to get you. You have to admit you're being ridiculously paranoid. Linux is used more commonly than Windows worldwide for the most important and delicate businesses and servers, even at Microsoft's own headquarters in Redmond. Linux isn't some small-time operating system made by a few people sitting underground in their basement, it's a huge server operating system and a growing replacement to Windows in that field. Many would laugh at such an accusation but I'm simply trying to explain to you that such a thing is quite impossible.

If you say so. I know what I know and I believe Linux and Firefox to be better. Why should I listen to you if you're preaching substandard merchandise? :P

Because I'm directly involved. And I'm in contact with hundreds of other people who I've come to know very well who are also directly involved. Linux is different because it's not corporate. It's made with a different mentality in mind, and that is what makes it better. It's not made by a company, it's made by people who want to make the computing world better. I am a part of that... why can't you understand that?

Danny, if people want their computers to be filled with spyware and viruses even after you have told them why that is wrong, then just let them. It'd be a better lesson for something to happen like them to lose all their data than you going on at them when they arn't going to change their mind because of what you say.

Ross, have you tried looking yourself at what goes on with Linux? As that's the only way you are going to see whether your fears are true or not, not just going "OmGz, aNy1 c4N c teh c0dE!!11!!1 AnY1 c4N sUbM17!!1111!" and use your common sense, for the submissions by anyone with maliceous intent to reach your combuter it would first have to go through testing, be avalible for download and then you would have to update your computer with the maliceous code, I don't know whether or not that's the full picture but that's the impression I have got from looking around, perhaps Danny could explain the process in detail.

Yes, very much so, and to be honest I'm having some thoughts people probably wouldn't be too happy with but it's something I've been considering for a while and may finally put into action since things are so unpleasant around here now.

Because if I didn't, the board would try to post "image URL" as an actual image! Because then the actual original tags would be used. Get it?

You should make a code tag thing that lets you post BBCode and it shows up like a quote with the code visible on it if you get what im saying. Like what it has on invision free.
