How would we record the podcast? I think iChat has a feature for that, but some of you are yet to succumb to the Cult of Jobs.

Well, for starters, you don't even use iChat, so I don't really see how that helps. :P

Although anyone who uses AIM can take advantage of the audio chat functionality (as long as they're using an audio chat compatible client like AIM or iChat -- Adium is out, sadly), and as long as one person is using iChat, then that one person can record it.

Yes, but I have it. I just thought I remembered seeing somewhere that it had something that was specifically useful for podcasts.

I'm up for that, maybe we could chat about that?

Sure thing, next time i'm on msn :)

As for recording I think that TS or Vent have recording functions.

Excuse the double posting. I have done some talking and planning and I've got the basic format for my rock show sort if the radio idea is agreed upon.

Ben's agree to do it, I will communicate with him over msn and he will send me the song he wants to play. I've also asked Debbie if she wants to be a co-host with me, as shes got a huge musical databank, plus shes an excellent speaker, me and her are best friends and we have some of the funniest and most random conversations around.

As the moment the style of the show would be that when it starts to have 'Dani California' playing in the background, me and Debbie introduce the program, have a bit of a banter, then we play three songs back to back and chat some more, topics will be debates, reviews, asking questions, doing jokes and general messing about. So far I am hoping the program will last about 90 miutes and be on every thursday and saturday.

As for programs to broadcast this me and Debs would use Teamspeak or Vent to chat, and shes got a friend who broadcasts using realplayer, shes e-mailed some people at ghostaudio.net so we can start trying to figure out how to put this all together, but i'm getting the basics ironed out.

I'm going to sticky this, as this idea has a good chance of success and i think it would be awesome of a plan got past the ideas stage :P

Jamie Minty May 1, 2008 4:55 PM

I think the Whocast used Skype.

Recurring Villain May 2, 2008 12:01 AM

Can't we play a different kind of music every time?

Some people don't like rock.

Nope, no indy crap at all.

Ok, I'm going to ask a question that, when not asked, causes the death of many an idea.

When is this going to happen?

Once Debbie gets back to me with info on 'How to broadcast' and when Danny decides to persue this.

Jez May 2, 2008 1:43 PM

Just a quick note before Ronnie suggests this idea:

C2A TeamSpeak IS NOT available for your recording purposes. :P

Reason: UR ALL GUNNA B BANND LULZ.....unless you're on early morning GMT when it's dead (although there may be a few AFKers about)

Also - I cancel RV's reservation for his music supervisor role because I'd be better at it (If it doesn't have the Jenova scale, it's not being played!). :D

However, I would fail to put the time into this so I promote RV to this postion. :)

Just a suggestion - why don't you just play a mix of music genres every show, rather than a specific genre for each show?

1) I only have rock and metal
2) I hate everything else
3) Your not in charge of my program :P (No offence)

Ben Dawson May 2, 2008 4:52 PM

And what I've got in mind is DEFINITELY not Indie...or emo crap. We shall have the metal.

Chris Britton May 2, 2008 4:53 PM

And i will be dammed if we are going to use any of that pop or rap bullshit as well.

Superkid11 May 2, 2008 4:54 PM

I'm out then, I'm not what you'd call a metal fan. Or much of a rock fan in general. I do like it, I just... mostly prefer songs without lyrics.

Ben Dawson May 2, 2008 4:55 PM

here here, (excluding Will Smith possibly, he's good, if we have to play rap, he's the one to go for, he's got a realism to him that most rappers don't have).

and Songs without lyrics are not songs, they are just music pieces.

Superkid11 May 2, 2008 4:56 PM

I honestly have no problem with rap as long as it's not any of that "gangsta" shit.

Thats alright Superkid. I'm not going to expect everyone to watch it.

Will Smith is not bad as a rapper. 'Black Suits comin' and 'Men in Black' were nice songs.

Ronnie Rowlands May 2, 2008 5:36 PM

I thought that ALL rap was "Gangsta Shit" of which you speak.

Nope, it's just a style of singing. Gangsta rap is very prominent but there are non-gangster rap songs. The Boondocks title music is one example... I can't think of the names of other examples but I do believe I've heard them.

I think the only Gangsta rap I like is the Star Wars Gangsta Rap and the Bionicle Piraka Rap. And White and Nerdy if it counts.

No, no you wouldn't. I've listened to Never Gonna Give You Up so many times I have a unique appreciation of the qualities of the kind of music we will never, ever play.

So that rules out Dragostea Din Tei and Fett's Vette then? I'm dissapointed and am going to have to leverage my powers as official music approver to tell you to GTFO.

Do not fret, citizen; RV said LET THERE BE VARIETY and there was variety and RV listened to it and it was good.

Some gangsta shit is good when they have good backing music and you don't hold much value to your higher cognitive functions.

Needless to say, I don't think we'll be playing much rap.

I'll write some new lyrics. I cant record them though, my Mic doesn't work in my MBP's fabulously unpowered line-in ports.

You still interested in Daleking it up like it's 1963?

Your MBP has a mic, you know. It's what I use -- even for pro stuff like this.

Hmm, well, I don't know if this idea is dead or not, but I came across a program which supports multi user voice calls AND call recording. It's called Gizmo5. Check it out. http://gizmo5.com/pc/
