What we really really need is a forum definition is "insult". The definition of an insult is very very subjective and a clear definition in the forum rules will help. If somebody feels insulted by something that is not defined in the rules as an insult than it's not anything that should be acted on.

For example, I believe what should constitute as an insult is a direct insult to the person in question. Not once in that topic was James directly insulted. His WORK was. I don't think it should be against the rules to do that. But when you do do that, you should only have to do it once, so as not to overload the topic.
"Express yourself and go".

Good grief, why did I not make you a moderator like a year ago?

Heh, well to be honest I'm not quite sure I could have come up with that post a year ago. :P I could be underestimating my year-ago self though.

Kody July 22, 2008 8:35 PM

I've deleted a spew of posts from this thread.

Keep it to improving DSF or related.

Staff posts have been left intact.

Very good ideas!

I think another thing will be the possibility of a 'creative works' or something forum, well, like we have now, but with a sticky akin to what was in RV's little board. Only post there if you have constructive criticism, otherwise, LEAVE IT ALONE. You will be punished for breaking said rules.

Agreed. Reasons for liking or disliking should be posted from now on.

Awh dangit. XD

Lemme change that.

James P and the definition of insult

Ronnie came up with a good universal definition we can use.

Any further remark intended to hurt or anger ANY member from now on will be acted upon. No matter how annoying you find said member if they haven't done anything obviously wrong then you just have to ignore them.

If we don't start enforcing this we'll be left with a dead forum.

Ronnie Rowlands July 23, 2008 2:58 PM

Thanks SK. You've really dropped me in it now, haven't you.

Superkid11 July 23, 2008 3:02 PM

Well it is a good definition. You should be credited for it.

Chris Britton July 23, 2008 3:08 PM

Another good gem of an idea there.

Superkid11 July 23, 2008 3:18 PM

It's really not all that different from my original definition, it's just clearer. :P

I should probably just merge this with the improvement project topic...

Good idea, and i will add that into my draft

I will submit it soon, My PC failed me today so I had to hook the laptop up and then spend a while letting it do badly needed updating while i went to the gym.

Superkid11 July 23, 2008 3:22 PM

I would like to make this reminder:

It only counts if the post was made with the INTENT of insulting. If it's just criticism of that person's work or something then it's quite another thing.

I'm gradually trying to make sense of all this.

Likewise, and also I'm trying to take the middle ground more, I've managed ot calm down now.

Kody July 23, 2008 9:15 PM

Great suggestions all around so far, please keep them coming and try to set personal issues, or any bad feelings aside.

We're working for a better place here people.

Kody July 26, 2008 5:08 AM

I've received the new proposed rules from Chris, are going over them and will be posting them for a staff and public review soon.

James P. August 2, 2008 1:07 PM

Good. What new forums will there be, or sub-forums, if any?

Ummm why do you do this again? IGNORE IT!!!! You could even use the magical Ignore list which takes away the nasties posts.

These arguments are really annoying me. This forum is dying and while the others try to sort it out argument start. You just posted the first angry and attacking post in this thread. Rat was joking with you, a little unfair? ... maybe, but why does this have to go from a fun, jokey thread (which all of Rat's posts maintained) with a fun video to offensive.

This isn't pointed directly at you James, I'm just a bit pissed off with the fact that Danny has been driven to the point where he has to take a break from his own forums. Forums are al about debate. "Happy Bunny" conversations would drive me to drink. A bit of disagreeing is great because its interesting. The problem here is that to many debates are being taken personally and turned into arguments!

And I will admit that I could very well learn from this lesson.

Sorry if anyone has taken offense from this, I am sorry. But as I said ... pissed off :(

P.S. James I do quite like the avatar

Very well said, Jamie, and much appreciated. I agree with all your points -- especially "happy bunny" posts driving me insane.

I think every one here has at some point, try not to feel bad about it. Learn from mistakes and all that! :D

You got it Jamie :D

Kody August 4, 2008 12:44 PM

Slight update.

Nasty flu knocked me out of commission, still recovering, but progress on the rules should happen soon.

Kody August 16, 2008 4:52 PM

So yeah, excuses excuses.

I got hit with the flu, thought I was better, ended up in the Emergency Room, recovered again and just have been dealing with one thing after another. Hectic as heck.

Posted the latest version I just whipped up of the rules in the staff forum, we'll try to get working on it.

Chris Britton September 3, 2008 6:27 PM

Any updates Kody?

Kody September 8, 2008 12:14 PM

Just settled in mostly after moving from Montana to Reno, will start work back up on the rules.

Ronnie Rowlands September 8, 2008 12:52 PM

I'm sure that all 3 of us are itching to read them.

Ah, didn't realize you moved. My apologies. :)

Kody September 18, 2008 4:44 PM

No apologies needed. I kind of dropped the ball with this, but it was due to needing to move, moving, then all the things needing to be done, finding a job (still working on that), settling in, meeting people.. etc.

Doesn't help that my roommate has been having tons of people over that distract from computer time. Not that it's a bad thing, but yeah.

My latest version of the rules is posted in the staff forum for review.

I just wish we could somehow increase activity further on the website.. it makes me sad when I can't check for a dew days and then find only a handful of posts have been made.

Same here. Sometimes I will go 24 hours without visiting and return to find that not a single post has been made in my absence.

Chris Britton September 18, 2008 9:08 PM

Well there not really much I can do until i get some feedback on the rules i posted sadly. Te only thing I can do is just post.

Ronnie Rowlands September 19, 2008 11:09 AM

I think that the DSF has had its day, dudes.

Well no one is forcing you to stay here. Comments like that are unhelpful at best and damaging at worst.

Not really, it's just a lot of us are distracted.
... or at least I am. I dunno, I think this is just a phase it's going through.

Chris Britton September 19, 2008 7:03 PM

I've been distracted due to having to pack for University. But i remain optimistic and faithful this place can become better after the events of the last few months, it may have been quiet but things have improved.

Same here. I do have a lot of homework and a trip to Washington DC to prepare for. I'll also be going to Gettysburg and Baltimore.
