Actually, I think the voices came out fairly close to the original in overall feel (maybe not "oooh" versus "aaah" but the sound of the voice as a whole). You're not being overly critical, I'm not very pleased with the final result either. ;) Anyway, I used GarageBand with the Symphony Orchestra addon pack on the Mac to make this particular piece. Normally I use FL Studio on the PC along with EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition for all my orchestral stuff. My preferred software synthesizers are the Arturia CS-80V, the Arturia Minimoog V, the Native Instruments Pro-53, and a few others here and there that usually have specific uses for specific projects. The CS-80V is definitely capable of the widest range of sounds (once you learn how to master its extremely complicated layout of controls) and I use that as my sort of "all-purpose" synthesizer. Hope that helps. :) |
Lots of confusing-sounding software and hardware there! :)
I love all of your music, Danny, but I still think your Face of Boe music is just the best I've heard you make! |
Thank you! I'm glad you like any of it at all! :D
|
Hey does anyone still have a copy of this? I recently reformatted my PC and lost it, and it was a great reconstruction! Sadly the link for download doesn't appear to work anymore.
|
The link does work, on Page 2 that is; the page 1 one hasn't for a while. Don't worry I made the same mistake. Danny, I would recommend editing your first post to contain this link: http://www.dannystewart.com/music/go...ingthevoid.mp3 There you go MI7. :D

Thanks for the note, Doodah! I'll fix that link up for you.

Well I was bored this evening so I decided to have a go at creating my own mix of Sealing the Void. Unfortunately the most sophisticated software I have is Noteworthy Composer so this is just a plain old midi file I'm afraid :)
At the moment it is a work in progress; I have done the first verse without drum beats (I don't know how to do drums yet :-P I'm kinda new to this thing but if anyone can help me then thanks in advance.) The tune is done entirely by ear and so is the base although I had to use Danny's version to help me in sections because I couldn't remember it properly. EDIT: Have improved the file with much better sounds for the tune. New Link: http://files.filefront.com/Sealing_t.../fileinfo.html EDIT: Full version below but I will leave this link up anyways. |
Limited by its MIDI soundset, sadly, but nicely done! Very accurate -- which always wins points with me! :D
|
I have just completed the track. I'm not happy with the drums in the second verse/section but that can be worked on at a later date. Drums are incredibly frustrating to do.
http://files.filefront.com/Sealing_t.../fileinfo.html EDIT: Made a very slight change to the completed version. Still available from the same link. See if you can notice the difference ;) |
Sounding very good! Unfortunately I didn't get the first version so I can't compare.
|
Aaah, doesn't matter. All I did was make the glockenspiel (my best substitute for a triangle) an octave higher otherwise it is all the same. Thanks for the comment!
|
Glad to hear my recreation of Murray's work has prompted another excellent rendition! :)
|
That is great work, Doodah! Congratulations on this! :)
|
Thanks for the comments guys. I must admit this went better than I expected for my first midi file from scratch. I'm a competant user of the software though. I've been mucking around with other peoples midi files for ages. Still tweaking the drum lines and still not happy with the second part. I will get there eventually! :D
|
I didn't know this was your first attempt at creating a MIDI file! Wow! :)
|
Yes indeed, very nicely done! Thank you for sharing it here.

Doodah's Sealing the Void...comming to a Danny Stewart Forums near you.

I have just realised that what I am hearing on my PC for my midi file will be different to what you are hearing on your PC, due to my SoundFont that I use which came with my soundcard. If you are using Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth (Windows default) as your midi output, you will get, quite frankly, a hideous version of my track. Here is a .wav file of my version which I believe will be different to my midi that you hear unless you are using SB X-Fi Audio as your midi output.

Sound Blaster X-Fi, eh? Nice. I'm getting one of those myself soon.
