It's only like 4.5 GB. How can you not have 4.5 GB? Don't I recall you saying over summer that you'd have a new bigger hard drive by the end of summer anyway?

Max Yittreas November 6, 2005 1:14 PM

I hoped I would. It didn't happen. :(

Chris Britton November 6, 2005 3:56 PM

Sorry to hear that mate.

Danny Stewart November 6, 2005 5:27 PM

Still, I refer you back to my first question -- how can you not have 4.5 GB?

Chris Britton November 9, 2005 5:00 PM

How about we consult the person with Ultimate Knowledge. Adam! :D

Danny Stewart November 9, 2005 7:55 PM

Why would Adam know why Max doesn't have 4.5 GB of hard drive space? :P

Ross Hendrie November 10, 2005 11:02 AM

Because Adam said something about being omnipotent or something earlier lol.

Danny Stewart November 10, 2005 12:24 PM

Oh. Fair enough. Adam? :P

Max Yittreas November 11, 2005 2:20 PM

I don't have it, and even if I just had it or a few hundred megs over, I still need that space for something other than a mere television show, like term papers, graphics for school, music, a game or two, etc.

Danny Stewart November 11, 2005 6:28 PM

Mere? :P

And that's fine. I just can't imagine not having space, I guess. I have well over 800 GB total storage space on both of my computers combined.

Ross Hendrie November 12, 2005 8:06 AM

You dont need to rub it in Danny :P . I have approx. 10 GB of free space left on my laptop's 18.5 GB hard drive.

Danny Stewart November 12, 2005 9:44 AM

It's actually a 20 GB hard drive, Ross. They always make them like that, with not all of the space fully usable. I'm not sure why exactly. On my old computer, the overhead on the drive was so bad that only 131 GB was useable on a 160 GB drive!

And my laptop came with a 20 GB hard drive, but I upgraded it to a 40 GB. Now I'm safely dual booting Windows and Linux, and it works really well. I primarily use Linux only on my laptop, since the only reason I still use Windows is for either games, music editing, or video editing, and my laptop doesn't do any of those things anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Its because they are sold with the metric definition of tkilo, mega etc, kilo meaning 1,000 etc while the computer defines kilo, mega etc differently, kilo to the computer is 1,024. At small amounts the difference isn't noticable but when you deal with larger sizes it becomes more noticable.

Chris Britton November 12, 2005 5:34 PM

Danny has be to so special doesnt he? :P

Max Yittreas November 12, 2005 6:17 PM

Danny Stewart November 13, 2005 9:56 AM
