Favorite Star Trek or Doctor Who books

This is a place for anyone who has read any Star Trek or Doctor Who books to share their favorites.

Ross Hendrie July 13, 2005 9:10 AM

The A Time To... series would have to be one of my favourites, along with the Stargazer series, and also the Voyager relaucnh, that im keeping up with. I just finished book 2 of the Second set, I can´t remember the name.

Danny Stewart July 13, 2005 3:03 PM

I've read some of the A Time To... series. Quite good.

Chris Britton July 14, 2005 2:36 PM

I own some of the A Time to... Series and they are quite good, i have not seen any Doctor Who books.

Danny Stewart July 14, 2005 6:44 PM

There's an old series line that's quite extensive, and a new series line which you would probably be slightly more interested in. With how popular the new series is over there, you should definitely pop over to your local bookstore's scifi section.

Ross Hendrie July 16, 2005 9:37 AM

Yeah ive seen the new series of books, try looking in WHSmith or Waterstones, Chris.

To be honest, Doctor Who books dont seem that appealing to me, I think it is better suited to a TV show.

Danny Stewart July 16, 2005 7:57 PM

On the contrary! Books can achieve things that can only be limited to the imagination -- things a television (or to be fair, even movie) budget could never accomodate! Many of them are quite excellent! Check them out!

Ross Hendrie July 19, 2005 10:46 AM

I tried reading a Dr. Who book once, but I ended up giving it up because I didn´t have a clue about the show at the time, that sort of put me off trying it.

Danny Stewart July 19, 2005 2:16 PM

Well now you know -- try again!

Ross Hendrie July 23, 2005 9:37 AM

Umm well no im still put off by it.

Danny Stewart July 23, 2005 4:06 PM

Why? Don't be unreasonable, Ross, there are hundreds of authors putting out great Doctor Who material. If the new series books were out in the US, I'd have read them by now. But they're not. :(

Ross Hendrie July 23, 2005 5:18 PM

Well I guess ive not exactly got an open mind so far, I'll consider maybe reading one of the new series.

Danny Stewart July 23, 2005 5:38 PM

Why wouldn't you have an open mind? You like Doctor Who, don't you?

Ross Hendrie July 23, 2005 6:17 PM

Yes but not really any other Sci-Fi books apart from Trek.

Chris Britton July 23, 2005 6:19 PM

I like Trek books, Not really seen any Doctor Who ones.

Danny Stewart July 23, 2005 6:51 PM

They're great.

Max Yittreas August 1, 2005 5:41 PM

William Shatner's ST books are good.

Danny Stewart August 1, 2005 5:52 PM

I've read one or two of those.

Chris Britton September 20, 2005 5:06 AM

I got abut 8 of them all for £1 form my girlfriend reecently, they are good, I think i know the real reason why Star trek V was crap.

Danny Stewart September 20, 2005 5:29 AM

You just contradicted yourself. First you say William Shatner's books are good, then you say he was the reason Star Trek V was crap. Which is it? :P

At the mintue, I'm reading the Doctor Who book "Prime Time", it features the 7th Doctor and Ace. It's pretty good, it makes sure it takes care of every detail, it's something that I can really get into.

Chris Britton August 10, 2006 4:45 AM

Im reading the book 'I am a Dalek', thats very good :)

Ben Dawson August 10, 2006 6:48 AM

At the minute I'm writting a Doctor Who book entitled Time War, it's my attempt at finding out what happened in the last great Time War. It features the 8th and (later on in the plot) 9th Doctors. So far I've only written the prologue but this is the second draft of the book (I had Big continuity problems with the first draft) but a lot of my original ideas are going to end up in it, including a VERY brutal death for Romana. Although the book's set after Terror Firma, I'm going to give Davros a slight cameo (the Emperor Dalek sending Daleks back through his own time stream). And K-9's going to be a companion as well, although the prologue is told by the 9th Doctor, I've added some of the 4th Doctors personality back into the run. I'll post the prologue in (although the finished piece might change), I took in mind a lot about what Russell T Davies has said about the Time War (especially about how it all started in Genesis of The Daleks). If anyone's interested in contributing anything to the story, just say.
