Consoles!

EDIT: I'd add "own" options to the poll but then it would become like a superlong mutant megapoll. So if you own one of the above, just select "want". Or better still...

I only just discovered this subforum, so for the sake of making a topic I'm going to make a topic about...

CONSOLES!

So which ones do you own, which ones do you like or hate, plan to buy, etc...

I'm the proud owner of an Xbox360. It's my baby.

I might buy a Wii if it turns out to be as awesome as it seems it will and I somehow come across a somewhat large inheritance.

I don't like Sony. They lie too much methinks.

Giant enemy crabs!

Danny Stewart September 24, 2006 12:08 AM

Fully decked out PC for me! That's it.

Chris Britton September 24, 2006 1:00 AM

Fully capable PC, and an Xbox 360, the PS3 has broken my heart

Recurring Villain September 24, 2006 1:10 AM

The PS3 has broken many hearts :(

</3

Jez September 24, 2006 3:25 PM

PS3 all the way for me. Microsoft get enough of my less-hard-earned money with my PC. ;)

That said, I want a fully decked out PC too (even more than a PS3). And I'll probably buy a PS3 simply for the final Metal Gear Solid game...and the next two Gran Turismos. ;)

PC pwns all consoles though. :)

Danny Stewart September 24, 2006 5:26 PM

Indeed, PC does pwn all consoles. And I don't like Microsoft getting my money either. :)

Recurring Villain September 24, 2006 9:03 PM

Problem is, it's somewhat difficult to play games on Linux. At least, fairly recent ones.

Otherwise I'm quite sure a good portion more pople (including me) would use it.

Danny Stewart September 24, 2006 9:28 PM

Advances are being made in that regard. Cedega grows more viable every time they release a new version, and Windows virtualization is starting to work for things like that too.

Chris Britton September 25, 2006 2:48 AM

I just want an XBox because of all these PS3 delays, the high price of a PS3, and the remarkable fact that things constantly delayed tend to be crap.

Danny Stewart September 25, 2006 5:09 AM

Some things that are delayed are worth waiting for though.

Recurring Villain September 25, 2006 5:24 AM

Like the Phantom?

*Cough*

Ross Hendrie September 25, 2006 6:50 AM

I own a fully-decked out PC myself. I want a PS3 though, despite it's many misgivings.

Chris Britton September 25, 2006 7:33 AM

I am quite happy with a PSP at the moment, i just learned how to convert DVD files to play on there, i current have some red dwarf episodes :)

Jez September 29, 2006 7:04 AM

I won't buy a PS3 until about a year after its release. It'll be cheaper and will most likely come with the next Gran Turismo because Sony like doing that, lol.

Josef Kenny September 29, 2006 3:26 PM

I want a Wii because I want to experience it! PC for general games, Wii for crazy experemental games! And I like Red Steel.

Dalek104 September 29, 2006 5:42 PM

I vote for everything! Muhahahaha!!!

:P
Seriously, if I had a choice between Xbox 360 and PS3, I think I'd choose Microsoft's nice, sleak modern console. :)

Bajoran Rogue September 30, 2006 6:42 AM

WWWWWWWWWWhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, I'm getting the Wii because its offering new ways to play the games with the Wii-mote. Not saying that the other consoles are worse, they're just taking a different, more traditional approach.

I'll still probably wait and see if the Wii will go down in price before getting one, despite it being the cheapest of the new consoles (another thing in its favour).

Ross Hendrie September 30, 2006 7:28 AM

Yeah I think the Wii would be interesting to play. But I dont know if the Wii-mote will be to my liking.

Danny Stewart September 30, 2006 9:38 PM

I'm interested in trying out a Wii but I still doubt I'm ever going to own a real console. Upgrading my PC is my top priority.

Roland T. Blackviser September 30, 2006 10:52 PM

I am starting to feel that I should spend less of my money on Video games, but at the same time, I am interested in wii. My compromise is to wait till it drops in price. The truth is, I love video games more than most people, but I feel there are still so many games for the systems I already own that deserve to be played, enjoyed, and beaten.

In any case, Wii will have Zelda. Twilight Princess will be coming out for G-cube, but eventually there will be others. And they call to me. What's that, Zelda games? You want me to kill? Well, since it's you asking, I will.

A rather expensive priority, though.

Oh ho! You sir, are a wit! No, I am not opposed to people in theory. Just when they stop me enjoying my games.

As a matter of fact, I'm in the process of spending $1200 on a major upgrade. New case (Cooler Master Mystique), new PSU (650W), new motherboard (ASUS), new CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo), new memory (2 GB, to be upgraded to 4 GB when funds allow), new video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7900GT with hopes for a second card via SLI, again when funds allow), and new sound card (Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty). Nice, huh? :D

Agreed. :D

Recurring Villain October 1, 2006 2:03 AM

That's $1608.60 in AUD.

That's 2.5 times as much as I payed for my Xbox360 and 2 times as much as I payed for my Xbox360, home theatre, VGA Cable and 21" crt monitor alltogether (and these are at ripoff Australian prices, too).

That's 2 times the PS3's US price, 4.8 times the Nintendo Wii's US price, and about 40 times how much money I have on me.

And computers are a ripoff here as well :(. I have to fund WMD development, enslave peasants and bring about the complete and total annihilation of good with this $40.

Danny Stewart October 1, 2006 6:11 PM

I find it worth it. It does a lot more for me than just games.

Recurring Villain October 2, 2006 4:04 AM

Well, I guess there's porn.

:D Amirite?

Danny Stewart October 2, 2006 3:43 PM

Porn, while a valid use of computing technology, certainly does not place great demand on system resources. I was in fact referring to my music making and video editing skills. :P

Recurring Villain October 3, 2006 4:18 AM

Editing porn videos and making porn music?

Danny Stewart October 3, 2006 10:21 PM

Damn, you got me. I just love making that porn music. :P

Chris Britton October 4, 2006 3:26 AM

How the hell can you have porn music?? :P

Recurring Villain October 4, 2006 5:02 AM

Through quantum physics.

Danny Stewart October 4, 2006 5:02 AM

I guess it might be that kind of 70's funk music maybe. No idea.

EDIT: Wow, RV, you posted that at exactly the same time as me.

Recurring Villain October 4, 2006 5:06 AM

Likewise you posted about 700 times in 3 seconds.

I guess you can do that with such an in-depth knowledge of quantum physics and porn music.

Danny Stewart October 4, 2006 12:07 PM

It's a lethal combination, you know.

Some Saxophone and some "Sexophone"....erm, groans and "ooh"s. Perhaps an electric piano too. :P ;)

I just had a great idea! Unfortunately, it involves me doing stuff in WaveLab and FLStudio so I can't be arsed. I'll just do it all in WaveLab....I might get back to you soon.... (even if it will be completely OT. The thought alone made me laugh aloud so I must do it :D)

Chris Britton October 4, 2006 3:41 PM

Ok Smartarse, i will stick to quantam physics

Danny Stewart October 4, 2006 5:32 PM

Ooh, you use FL Studio, do you Jez? That's my music software of choice. :D

Recurring Villain October 5, 2006 4:06 AM

Me too ^_^

Jez October 5, 2006 1:28 PM

Yeah. I'm slowly "updating" to version 6. Sytrus 2 is awesome and I've been playing around with Wasp XT, which is just as good (certainly much better than Wasp). ;)

I've fiddled with Reason but it's too detailed for me to do anything quickly on it at the moment. I'll be taught how to use it in a year's time at Uni (would have been this year but I took a year out). My friend, who is a DJ and producer, used to use FLStudio but now he swears by Reason and recommended it to me (although he understands my reasons for not using it).

That idea I had involved a load of Metallica sound clips and perhaps some longer instrumental selections from their songs but I can't be arsed to do it at the moment. I'm currently 32/40 hours through my working week and am really tired so I might give it a shot over the weekend (unless my 40 hour week turns to 48....).

Danny Stewart October 5, 2006 4:27 PM

Hehe, sounds good to me. I may check out Reason now that you've mentioned it and your formerly-FL-using friend now swears by it.
