Torchwood 1x02 - "Day One"

Plot Summary
An alien addicted to sex is let loose on Cardiff's nightlife. Torchwood must track down the creature's new host and in doing so, confront a violent new form of love in the 21st century.

Bajoran Rogue October 26, 2006 2:20 PM

What did the BBC think they were up to by showing porn?

Ben Dawson October 26, 2006 3:55 PM

THAT...wasn't porn...BELIEVE me.

Ross Hendrie October 26, 2006 4:55 PM

It wasn't quite porn. I'll admit it was a cit of a cheap way to shove a tonne of sex into the show but apart from that it was a fabulous ep. And Rogue, that's why it's on BB3 id imagine. :P

Yeah, good episode, better than episode 1. And woah... that girl on girl action. Yeah, was pretty good; the episode I mean.

Danny Stewart October 26, 2006 6:41 PM

Yeah, it was a bit unnecessarily graphic at points but I think it was still a good episode. I did enjoy the first one more though.

Ben Dawson October 27, 2006 3:17 AM

well, third ep is coming soon, it looks really good from what I've seen.

Danny Stewart October 27, 2006 12:00 PM

Indeed so. I await it eagerly!

Jez October 27, 2006 1:24 PM

Should be a 6/10 but I gave it 9 simply for the "action". :P

Danny Stewart October 27, 2006 7:36 PM

LOL. Nice review. :P

Ross Hendrie October 28, 2006 7:23 AM

Some people seem to have rather negative opinions. :(

Jez October 28, 2006 4:08 PM

It beats Robin Hood - that's good enough for me. Besides, it's actually something to stand up against the likes of Lost, House and CSI. Finally something British that is in the same league (and that isn't a crappy comedy or aimed at family viewing)!

The only problem that I had with this ep was that they n00bed around for too long. I want action! Blood! Gore! Violence!!

Danny Stewart October 28, 2006 11:00 PM

It's a premiere... cut it some slack.

Ross Hendrie October 29, 2006 11:02 AM

Yeah, 'Rose' sucked in Dr. Who.

Bajoran Rogue October 29, 2006 12:41 PM

We just need to be thankful that there was none of another kind of "sucking" going on.

Doodah October 29, 2006 3:50 PM

... Moving on...

I thought Torchwood was good but it didn't quite live up to it's parent series (spin-offs rarely ever do I suppose) but it's still something to look forward to on a Sunday evening before the dismal prospect of going to school the next day. I thought the first episode was better than the second (although some people seem to really enjoy the second one... I wonder why...) but the third one looks set to cap them both. Eagerly anticipating 10 O' Clock to come...

Ben Dawson October 29, 2006 5:15 PM

here it is.

I can so sympathise there, bro. Same here. :)

Danny Stewart October 30, 2006 4:56 PM

I'd like to point out to such enthusiastic folk as Ross and Ben (and such unenthusiastic folk as Rogue and Ronn) that the 10 and 1 ratings respectively are reserved for episodes that are truly exceptional or truly dismal. You probably shouldn't have more than one 10 per season (and certainly not two in a row), and I hope the show's not deserving of that many 1s either.

Ross Hendrie October 30, 2006 4:59 PM

Well people obviously feel strongly about this episode.

Ben Dawson October 30, 2006 4:59 PM

but they're so good.................................in my opinion

True. And I have strong feelings about it too, but that didn't warrant me giving it a 10 or a 1. Just a 7, which was fair in my book, regardless of my strong feelings. Just saying is all.

I know. But giving something a 10 shows that you haven't really thought it through very much. The ratings should be kept relative to the show itself. Just because Doctor Who, for example, might be better than 90% of other television, doesn't mean it should always get a 9 or 10. If that episode was great but not utterly fantastically brilliant, give it an 8 or a 9. Be fair.

Jez October 31, 2006 3:08 PM

And bear in mind that the producers probably have some uber episodes coming up closer to the end of the series.

Ben Dawson October 31, 2006 4:21 PM

I suppose so.

Danny Stewart October 31, 2006 9:28 PM

Yes, agreed, Jez, thanks!

Ronnie Rowlands November 4, 2006 3:39 PM

Well having viewed Torchwood, I can safely say that, come this sunday, 10pm, in my living room, on the sofa, with a nice drink of pepsi and some hobnobs beside me(:P), I will not be watching torchwood,I will be halfway through the new episode of Frost. Oh joy :D

Ross Hendrie November 5, 2006 12:23 PM

You suck. :P

Ben Dawson November 5, 2006 12:40 PM

well, I might watch the first hour a Frost and see if I like it first before I leave Torchwood to a later date.

Ronnie Rowlands November 6, 2006 11:12 AM

It was anexcellent episode, especially the bit where frost was chased by a crocodile :D

Ben Dawson November 6, 2006 11:35 AM

and the scene with the tiger

Ronnie Rowlands November 6, 2006 1:54 PM

Oh you watched it all? Did you understand/enjoy it?

Ben Dawson November 6, 2006 3:54 PM

yep, I understood it, I liked it. I liked it enough to watch it again.
Before watching it, I forgot another option I had, to tape Torchwood downstairs and watch Frost in my mums room which also has freeview. She was out at the time so I was free to do it...I missed the first 5-10 minutes but there was 2 hours worth there so I caught up with it (well, including brakes:P).

Ronnie Rowlands November 7, 2006 10:52 AM

Start buying Ben! Ask your Mum For a Frost series for christmas....go on.... you know you want to:P

Ben Dawson November 7, 2006 11:11 AM

haha, I think it might be a bit too soon for that...but that doesn't stop me watching it over Christmas...besides, I'm after an acoustic guitar, I've been wanting one for ages, and seeing as I play electric, it should be easy to play. But seriously, I'll probably watch Frost over Christmas (if it doesn't air at the same time as Doctor Who that is:P)

If you play with a plectrum (I'm guessing you do - not many people use their fingers) make sure you get a steel-stringed acoustic. :P

That said, it would be good to practise playing with your fingers anyway. Then you alternate between the two. Your playing will improve too. :)

I do like the thought that a Sunday night drama might be hard to understand. It's never happened to me. :P

Ben Dawson November 7, 2006 5:09 PM

I may alternate, it's harder to alternate on electric because of the strings.

Ronnie Rowlands November 8, 2006 3:44 AM

Where do you download your stuff from Danny?

Ben Dawson November 8, 2006 4:46 AM

websites I think:P

Ronnie Rowlands November 8, 2006 4:52 AM

Yes but which ones, not that I would need to download, I own them all.

Ross Hendrie November 8, 2006 12:24 PM

He doesnt use websites. He uses sheareza and get's the torrents from a website.
