Forum Hide and seek

Why not do a forum version of hide and seek? Except this time we take a paticular word or phrase, plonk it into a post or topic, and send everyone on a wild goose chase for it. It would make for some good devling into old places just to find it :P much like that game Ronn just did :P

Sifting through 25,000 posts sounds a bit daunting O__o

Chris Britton April 17, 2007 6:13 AM

Ok, maybe not that many, you couple me specific as to where the word or sentance is, like in the Doctor Who forum, episode disscussion :)

Danny Stewart April 17, 2007 7:34 AM

RV can't go into the Episode Discussion forum as he's been locked out (so he doesn't spoil the episodes before he sees them).

Still, not a bad idea. Although the search function on the forums kind of misses the point. :P

Exactly what I was thinking.

Jez April 18, 2007 4:09 AM

Turn it off - problem fixed. :P

Sam Davies April 18, 2007 4:10 AM

Hey its a good idea I'm up for it.

Recurring Villain April 18, 2007 4:10 AM

You could make changes to the posts other than the addition of text.

Changing a post's text colour, for example.

Danny Stewart April 18, 2007 1:43 PM

Hmm. That wouldn't show up in search results.

Chris Britton April 18, 2007 2:17 PM

Well, lets find a word, hide it and there we are :P

That's the whole point...

Danny Stewart April 19, 2007 11:37 AM

Yes, exactly. I was emphasizing your point to the other members. :P

And here I was thinking you'd taken the mantel of Captain Obvious.

Jez April 20, 2007 7:57 AM

^^He thought you were Captain Obvious Danny!

*Goes back to air-drumming*

Sam Davies April 23, 2007 7:34 AM

Do we say what word we're hiding/

Danny Stewart April 23, 2007 10:49 AM

Heh, we haven't really done anything with this since the idea was submitted.

Jez April 23, 2007 12:05 PM

It could be "I've hidden a red word in the General Chat forum - find it....THAT'S AN ORDER PRIVATE!"

At which point, you would say "YES SIR!!" and find it. :)

I'd make it a whole post. And setting it between 2 dates would probably be a good idea.

Jez April 24, 2007 4:31 AM

Haha, I like giving people near-impossible challenges. However, it's only impossible if you can't be arsed to look. ;)

Sam Davies April 25, 2007 4:19 AM

Do I say Yes Sir now?

Jez April 25, 2007 7:09 AM

You can if you like. I've edited a whole post so that it is in pink. If you have difficulty, I'll narrow down the hunt by stating the member who first posted it.

Post the URL to either the thread or the post itself (in the top right hand corner of each post, there is a number. The page that number links to is the post URL) and you'll get......umm.....

*OOC: Psst, guys, what are we giving them for finding these things?*

Good huntin'!

Ronnie Rowlands April 26, 2007 3:12 AM

Damn. Who posted it? Or you can be less exact and say if it's a moderator or a normal member.

Jez April 26, 2007 6:25 AM

A normal member. :)

Jez April 28, 2007 6:01 AM

Posted by Ben Dawson. :P

Ben Dawson April 29, 2007 5:37 AM

Searching all memory banks of all posted transactions in the last 30 days.

Jez April 29, 2007 9:12 AM

Way before that. :P

Ben Dawson April 29, 2007 9:53 AM

Searching memory banks for the last 200 years of human history (this may take a while).

For me: Scratching head thinking about the last 200 years of human history (done in a jiffy, but with no certain results) ;)

Ben Dawson April 29, 2007 3:48 PM

Do you want this quickly, or properly? Hmm?

Danny Stewart April 29, 2007 4:21 PM

MWAHAHAHAHA! I've found it! But only by cheating, I admit. It helps to own the web site, because then I can search my SQL database for the use of [color] tags in posts by Ben Dawson. :D

But I won't end the contest by revealing the post. Good luck to someone with more patience than I. :P

Ben Dawson April 29, 2007 4:46 PM

HAHAHA, Nice going Danny. :P

Jez April 30, 2007 8:45 AM

Haha, that's good. Danny's just confirmed that it does exist and I haven't sent you all on a wild goose chase. ;) :D

Sam Davies April 30, 2007 8:49 AM

Yes Sir! sorry just sort of came out.

Danny Stewart May 1, 2007 12:08 PM

This is still going. It's not over until someone posts the post.
