Favourite Versions Of The Theme

Well I do love the Pertwee and Baker Opening Title Version, but I really love the Howell and Murray Gold's version, (thats the ones Series 1-3 and that includes End Credits ):D:dalek::tardis:

tardis2008 January 12, 2008 11:51 AM

The orignal theme by Delia Derbyshire cant be beat. My second choice would be Murray Golds (Series 1-3) version.

Ronnie Rowlands January 12, 2008 12:22 PM

The very first, Dominic Glynn's and the Big Finish theme.

tardis2008 January 12, 2008 5:51 PM

Big Finish Theme ?

Agreed, Dom's was cracking, Although the TV movie intro score was really touching. Murray's series 1 - 3 theme and the closing theme for the series 2 - 3 credits.

is there one with the middle 8 in?

Superkid11 January 12, 2008 6:35 PM

This is a really tough choice as I pretty much like them all. But I'm especially fond of the Howell theme, Gold's series 2-3 themes(there's a slight difference from series 1), and the 1967 Derbyshire theme.

Only the closing theme, I'm not aware of any long version

Recurring Villain January 12, 2008 10:16 PM

My theme is the best.

It's what happens when Delia Derbyshire takes drugs. Danny knows what I'm talking about. :P

I like the original Derbyshire theme, the Howell theme and the Glynn theme the best.

He is a winner.

Ronnie Rowlands January 13, 2008 8:37 AM

A load of other Brosnan Bond films too

Yeah, Tomorrow Never Dies had some excellent music.

It's a pity he didn't do Goldeneye. Goldeneye was awesome.

Ronnie Rowlands January 13, 2008 9:21 AM

I found the score to goldeneye particularly brilliant actually.

Chris Britton January 13, 2008 9:22 AM

Danny's Series 4 remix also gets my vote.

Even the shitty techno bits?

Ronnie Rowlands January 13, 2008 10:19 AM

I don't recall anything like that. One piece of music I liked is found from the start where Bond and Trevelyan are sneaking through the chemical factory.

I'll have to watch it again. All I know is there was some techno stuff in there (like the fight on the runway) that sucked so much it almost made me force someone to commit suicide.

Ronnie Rowlands January 13, 2008 10:44 AM

Yes, but then again, it might not have been that bad. Having over sized pillowcases is enough for you to make someone want to commit suicide.

Ross Hendrie January 13, 2008 4:58 PM

Murray's of course. :P

If Murray starts a rock band we are all doomed.

He did. They were called the Backstreet Boys.

Sit the f*ck down, Gold.

I'm going to revise my answer and say my favorite who theme is Torchwood's.

Murray Gold has a special place in whatever substitutes my heart. I think it's a stapler atm. I keep it in a box.

The Torchwood themes brilliant but its a bit short. I think it was Hardwire who did a longer version that was very good. Apart from the new 2008 theme i like all of Mr Golds music and bought both albums they released of his music:D

So did I, unfortunately. I wonder if they'll take away the money he got from my sales if I return them both... This is perhaps worth exploring.

Chris Britton January 15, 2008 7:29 PM

If you do this and record what happens I will send you £10 Only if your prediction is true.

Recurring Villain January 15, 2008 11:01 PM

Party at Murrays house. Everyone's invited.

stutomo January 26, 2008 6:17 PM

I've always liked the Murray Gold series 2-3 themes the best.

Of his, I think that is my least favorite. It's too cluttered and disorganized. The one point in its favor is that it actually makes (nearly) complete use of the Derbyshire bassline -- something that cannot be said for any of his other themes.

I love the score for Goleneye! It's not exactly conventional but it was one of the scores that got me into film music. Eric Serra shouldn't have been boycotted so quicky imo.

David Arnold is very good and I prefer his Tomorrow Never Dies score than anything else he has done, including the Doctor Who theme. Although it does seem as if he's trying to imitate John Barry (listen to Tomorrow during the car intro scene then listen to the Goldfinger opening) and I don't think any composer should ever do that.

My favorite version of the theme has always been the original Derbyshire version because it's timeless and very well done.
