DSF podcast?

Actually it was through the Whocast that I originally got in touch with Murray Gold. He mentioned me on there, so I emailed his manager, and the rest is history.

And now we hate each other, haha. :dalek:

Makes me wonder if DSF should do a weekly podcast itself.

Ronnie Rowlands April 29, 2008 7:28 AM

That's not a bad idea actually. with one host and a different guest every week.

...that one host being Danny, right, Ronnie? :P

Chris Britton April 29, 2008 7:55 AM

Danny would be the obvious choice :P

I'd better split this into it's own topic, it's worthy of that.

Well, yes, unless he didn't want to do it for some insane reason. Actually, interviewees could go on in doubles, we made a good pair on TS, RV :P

Chris Britton April 29, 2008 9:50 AM

It brings back up the idea of DSF having it's own chatroom on Ventrillo, and that means stuff can be recorded too. If i ever get around to redownloading vent and figuring out how to to set one up.

Josef Kenny April 29, 2008 9:50 AM

Sounds awesome! I wouldn't mind being involved.

Also, why don't we have our own video podcast on a Qi/Never Mind the Buzzcocks/Have I Got News For You basis? :P

Chris Britton April 29, 2008 9:55 AM

RCV would play Stephen Fry and Danny could be Alan Davies. I call dibs on Bill Bailey. Rat, ben and Ronnie can tight it out for the roles of Paul Merton, Ian Hislop and Boris Johnson.

Josef Kenny April 29, 2008 9:56 AM

Damn! Bill is my favorite :(

I'd have to be Paul Merton. I can do weird rambling humour.

Danny Stewart April 29, 2008 10:33 AM

This is an interesting idea. Honestly I don't know if it would work though... what the hell would we talk about? :P

Ronnie Rowlands April 29, 2008 10:42 AM

Anything! Debates and such, then improvised conversation. Why would RV play Stephen Fry?

I'd be Ian Hislop. Not that we want to play characters, ourselves are just fine. I do love Paul Merton though. And Hislop. And Boris Johnson. And Stephen Fry <3 In fact, I once had a sig with Fry, Alan Davies, Ian Hislop and Paul Merton on it.

Well for starters we will need to resurrect that Ventrillo idea and set up our own chatroom :P I am looking into that as we speak. As for topics, well anything really. How could Doctor who be improved? Latest music projects, we could have guest stars every now and again like Dom :P

It could be a fortnightly or monthly thing, so we don;t run out of ideas too soon.

Or, if that fails us. DSF radio! I've got a friend who set up her own radio channel for the MMORPG Pardus and was successful. me and Ben could do the Rock music program for that :P

Well Danny bought Nicecast and is experienced with it, so...

Ok, this is getting better all the time. Now i guess it comes down to doing a podcast every couple of weeks, which would be easier to manage and allow us to conserve ideas. Or have a radio station which is on every few days or every weekend, which would null the need for a podcast as we can simply have a program with discussion topics, and would allow us to flex creativity much more,

Danny Stewart April 29, 2008 2:16 PM

Ventrillo is a big no-no, because as far as I know, there is little or no support for Mac.

Rat Soufflé suggested Nicecast, seeing as I bought it and all. That would work for me. I believe Skype may also be the best solution for actual voice chat, because it's cross-platform and pretty reliable.

Jamie Minty April 29, 2008 2:26 PM

I think its a great idea. Proper episode reviews would be a nice idea.

Maybe a competition every week, maybe the prize being a special privilege for the forum until the next competition.

http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

I have friends that use it on Mac's daily, but that's all I know. Not sure how stable the release is and such, but they seem to do just fine.

Either way, I think the idea of a DSF podcast or even radio station is a great one! I echo what Jamie said, some episode reviews would be awesome as well.

Jamie Minty April 29, 2008 3:16 PM

Little competiton idea: Best avatar of the week is featured as the artwork for the podcast for that week! ... fun

Josef Kenny April 29, 2008 3:19 PM

I love that 'fun' at the end of the post.

I think we should have some sort of music feature, and a feature where we criticize Murray, and also an episode review poll discussion thing.

I like that idea.

I've used it myself and my experiences have not been very positive. What about server support? Can I run Ventrilo server on Mac OS X?

Noted. Support seems to be building for this idea, so I'll give it some serious consideration.

Ben Dawson April 29, 2008 4:19 PM

I wont be able to do it, as I have a problem with voice chatting...Ronnie knows why.

Chris Britton April 29, 2008 5:00 PM

I volenteer to do music. I have plenty of rock tracks form the 80's, 90's and 2000's. Ben, if you want you can still help out, except you don't have to speak, you can help with picking tracks and I do all the talking. :) You have a big music database and I would really love to have you helping out, and you would not have to say a thing :)

Kody April 29, 2008 5:51 PM

I'd love to lend a hand, be it reviewing, recording random dialogue, etc. If anything is needed. :)

Because he was pretty good in V for Vendetta and I like V for Vendetta.

That's easy, the hard bit is finding out who would listen to it.

I have plenty of Rammstein, do not worry :)

Really, the only music from the 80's includes some Dire Straits, REM, Queen, Meat Loaf and some Guns N' Roses But the majority of my music is late 90's to 2000's

Oh, well if it's 80's music you want, I've got plenty of Keff.

Yeah. I rest my case.

Ronnie Rowlands April 30, 2008 7:16 AM

Even better if someone loves something, like an Episode, or the new series as a whole, and someone hates it, debates would be a good idea.

And then we could have insults and such. Jokes about the weight of one's mother. Bonus points for Adipose references.

Perfect then! Do we get bonus points for RTD and Murray insults, as well as Dom references? :P

Sure. The more, the merrier.

Superkid11 April 30, 2008 9:48 AM

I don't like vocal debating, so count me out of that. ;)

But it can descend to insults and such. Surely you wouldn't miss out on that. :P

Superkid11 April 30, 2008 10:11 AM

It's tempting, but that's actually the reason I don't like it. ;)

Jamie Minty April 30, 2008 10:32 AM

I'll help if you need me. Not so great with tech but I'd love to participate in discussions and stuff.

lol, a segment called "Ronnie and Superkid's innuendo corner", where we improvise a rude discussion. The first one to not be able to think of a rather rude comeback looses.

Can I host that? :P That could be our satirical quiz show.

Ronnie Rowlands April 30, 2008 11:49 AM

yeah you need to act as a referee as well, judging whether or not our responses are legible.

I feel like Angus Deayton now, except i'm not doing drugs and prostitutes. But regardless I'm still up for hosting your idea :D

Ronnie Rowlands April 30, 2008 11:55 AM

Not doing drugs and prostitutes? Then I don't think you're actually in university then.
