Doctor Who Trailer Maker [UK only]

The New trailer maker is up on the BBC Doctor Who website.

Where you make 30second trailers. You choose TV clips, Sound Clips, Music, Backing Effects, Even Greenscreen Videos.

Its annoying they are 30 seconds long only but its still good fun. Not sure if its UK only but here are the codes you enter on the main screen to see my trailers. If you have got one ... post it!

The Doctor: 7frqar

Enemies: 7frqy5

Daleks and Cybermen: 7frq1c

I'm probably most pleased with the enemy one. Might take a while to load as there are lots of clips.

Kody April 29, 2008 4:48 PM

:(

It keeps re-directing me to the games page every time I try to get to the trailer maker. Always been the same with the comic maker as well.. hate it so much, would really like to play around with those.

Dalek104 April 29, 2008 4:56 PM

It's quite cool.

Same thing here. :(

I don't know why the BBC keeps restricting all the fun parts of their website. By all means, the full episode and the full "Confidential" episode need to be UK only, but what about the five-minute featurettes, the trailers, Comic Maker and Trailer Maker? I see no logical reason why those features should not be available to fans worldwide. Remember when no one outside of the UK could access any part of the official "Sarah Jane Adventures" website for much of the first season? Being that overprotective of your franchises will hurt their chances for success overseas, and that's something a cash-strapped TV network can't afford in today's competitive market. It's time BBC started showing more respect for their franchises and their fans.

I think RTD's a racist. Just look at the scene in America near the end of the Sound of Drums. Fried chicken AND pizza at ONCE?!

(I actually thought that was funny, but still.)

And the kid's wearing a football jersey. Come on. It was like the house of the most stereotypical stereotypes in Stereotypeville.

What's worse, the president was sane and businesslike. Seriously, if you're going to make fun of the US do it right.

We should write an open letter to RTD. It would go something like this:

Dear RTD,

Stop sucking at DW lulz.

Love,
The DSF Gang

PS. Bring back Tosh and Owen because RV is pretty pissed about that and I'm not sure that I can promise he wont track you down and cause you grievous bodily harm. Just a heads up. That kid is a psychopath.

Fix't.

Danny Stewart April 30, 2008 6:26 AM

Perfect. I knew it was missing something.

Jamie Minty April 30, 2008 10:37 AM

I would like my name added in brackets to RV's add on. Torchwood with out Tosh is just ... the programme with the American guy in Cardiff.

Why the hell is this stuff UK only. They can't be scared of spolers because the American Who site had pics of Cybermen Daleks and the Doc and Rose on Badwolf Bay before S2 had even aired.

They add a nice feature to the site and won't share it with others?

Surely they know proper Who fans in America will watch online illegally anyway. If they don't they are plain stupid.

Does anyone know a way of downloading these videos? They are .swf

It's not that they don't want non-UK fans to see it, its just that streaming video uses up their bandwidth and hence money.

I would say that's more Torchwood without Owen...

Jamie Minty April 30, 2008 11:21 AM

Tosh is more special than Owen. But Tosh would be less special without Owen.

Therefore Owen is probably actually special too!

Yes. Probably.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/trailermaker/view/7frxly

This may work.

Try adding: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/trailermaker/view/ ... before each code.

Kody April 30, 2008 3:22 PM

Dangit, looked like it was working for a second.. then re-directed. :(

Jamie Minty April 30, 2008 4:44 PM

*sighs*

I want to find a way of downloading them as they are wiped from the database every 6 months.

Kody April 30, 2008 5:00 PM

If it's all done in flash and I assume it is, there's a multitude of firefox plugins and stand along programs that can rip the .flv file then let you convert it to something else.

You'd need to experiment and find out if any would work on the BBC website though.

Quick fix solution - record it with a camcorder pointed at your screen, or a digital camera that has video/sound capability. While the quality may go down a bit, this does create a more permanent record of your video (think what Telesnaps did for all those missing episodes), and makes your video YouTube-postable, too.
Hope that helps. ;)

MI7 April 30, 2008 6:16 PM

It was nice of them to include some new clean music clips and sound effects but the programme in general is pretty lame...no fades or transistions or whatever. Still, I guess it was enough to keep me interested for about a half hour :P.

Torchwood without both of them is just an American guy in Cardiff with a few whiny Welsh nubcakes. The group they had there was special because there was someone in there everyone could relate with. I liked Tosh because she was an antisocial geek (just like a certain forum troll) living amongst high-rolling, time-travelling action hero people, and it was interesting because she was different to them, but still capable of handling herself in her own way. If they replace her with Martha, then we lose that, and we get another sexed-up stereotype.

I liked Owen because he saw things in a rather nihilistic way (again, like a certain forum troll). I could relate to him because shit happened to him, his life was so far from perfect, he was prepared to die if he had to. If they replace him with John, we get another time-travelling, bisexual action hero.

That's why I'm pissed. They killed off the least generic characters they had.

You'll probably be happy to hear that Naoko Mori is still considering coming back for S3 (apparently). As for Mr. Gorman, I don't know. But it would be a bit of a stretch for them to bring Owen back again, although like I said, I don't really care how much of a stretch it is, as long as they bring them back...

Funny, that's the opposite of what I'd heard. I heard Tosh was dead for good, but Burn Gorman hinted that that may not be the end of Owen.

I think he was joking about that,

Frankly I think it makes more sense to expect Owen back than Tosh. :P

After he got disintegrated? I doubt it. He was undead, not invincible.

Yeah, but there were forces involved in keeping him alive.

Forces.

Superkid11 May 1, 2008 8:01 AM

Wait... could Jack survive being disintegrated?

Ben Dawson May 1, 2008 8:12 AM

May I also just say that we never ACTUALLY saw Owen's body?
And yeah, he could, he's not exactly immortal physically, but he's immortal through time, time wont let him die. So basically, even with such a thing like that, his body would just reform.

Yes. He would "re-integrate," as it were.

Thank you for saying exactly what I just said :P

Yay thats great news!

I might film these. Really want for clips from Series 1 and 2. More of Rose and Daleks, Platform one and hopefully they will update this like with the Comic Maker every week.

Want to be able to add your own music as well so you can make Doc/Rose videos or just Doctor videos.

I might try making some stuff on imovie soon.

Yeah, keeping him alive. Not in one piece. He could still get damaged.

I'd say so. His immortality seems like a sort of 'amendment' to the laws of the universe, which keeps him in the exact configuration he was when he was brought back to life the first time. Of course, if he does become the Face of Boe, then that theory is sort of shot.

Superkid11 May 2, 2008 12:23 AM

Awesome. Now if only it came with immunity to pain...

The official explanation is that Rose "saw" all the times that Jack died, through her magical time vortex powers, and reversed them all. So really, nothing should be able to kill him, because she would have seen and reversed it. That's why disintegration, etc. wouldn't matter. The manner of his death never matters.

So why does she let him die that last time...?
