Doctor Who 4x11 - "Turn Left"

"Turn Left" by Russell T Davies
Rose is back, Donna turned right, Doctor is dead, Bad Wolf, end of the universe, blah blah, etc. Does anyone really care?

Amen.

RTD, I have a message for you.

Let Moff take over, now.

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 3:48 AM

So uh... what was up with it?

Josef Kenny June 22, 2008 4:21 AM

I liked it.

There.

It was pretty much a pointless episode that tied up / solved nothing, could have been done without, was filled with stupid and awkward dialog.. and yeah, was pretty much crap. :(

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 4:47 AM

Tied up and solved nothing? Lest we forget, young Kody, that this is the first of a three parter, presumably everything will be tied up and solved in part three :P

Incorrect -- this is not considered part of the finale. The finale is two parts and starts next week.

So yes -- tied up and solved nothing, and was completely and utterly pointless. And annoying. And crap. Yeah.

Jamie Minty June 22, 2008 5:14 AM

The whole point of the story is what a world without the Doctor would be. And I thought it was interesting and fun to see.

RTD created such a realistic world (in the way that we cope) without the Doctor.

Through this Rose found Donna and a connection to the Doctor as she has been searching through all the worlds for him. In this world she comes to late and sees him die but finds Donna instead and uses this to get to the Doctor.

I think Rose can always see the Doctor (e.g in Midnight) But can only travel through to another universe if it is present day or on Earth.

Confusing but as Ron said it will all be tied up by 13, even if it isn't part of the finale. Theres still things from episode 1 and 2 that haven't been tied up!

Can't wait for the finale. Its going to be incredible and all the companions (plus a few of their friends) all coming together will be great!

Alexus June 22, 2008 5:27 AM

I thought this episode was brilliant. And I liked Voyage of the Damned.

Deal wit' it.

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 6:47 AM

Well i felt this truly was one of the finest pieces of television I have ever seen.

There.

I was particularly moved by the 'Labour camps' scene, so moving and so real. I didn't find this annoying and crap at all. And also, I think this is a three parter, because it ended on a cliff hanger that is going to lead directly into next week's episode.

So, you know, whoever wants to start the boring ''RTD must die" tirade again, go right ahead, I'm out of this thread.

Agreed, there were tears in my eyes when they took nice Italian man away to die. Shades of Children of Men or V for Vendetta there, methought.

QFT. Especially the labour camps.

Slightly worrying, however, was that the flash of light from the nuclear explosion of the Titanic crashing went in front of the BBC logo/scrolling newsreel:

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 7:15 AM

Also, wasn't it nice of Alexi Sayle to take all those people into his house, Rat? :P (You like The Young Ones, you should get it)

Jez June 22, 2008 7:38 AM

I enjoyed it too. Perhaps due to my low expectations.

Josef Kenny June 22, 2008 7:42 AM

I <3 Alexi Sayle/Mr Balowski.

"Ah! Coca-cola! Symbol of the free west!"

Cassiuskitt June 22, 2008 7:42 AM

Isn't it great how we all have differing opinons on the episodes, with this degree of variance the series stands in good stead to carry on for a very long time indeed (longer than it already has done obviously!) and with who ever is at the helm. So long as we don't get too pickey with each others opinions or postings these are very interesting discussions. A bit of respect goes a very long way.

Oh, somebody is bound to spoil the status quo. Most of the time, I simply post my (short) op, vote, and then gtfo of the thread. ;)

I think I shall adopt this strategy;)

stutomo June 22, 2008 7:47 AM

I like how Danny hasn't bothered to put the real program synopsis up... Not! Way to go and throw your dolly out the pram. We all know you hate RTD and the return of Rose but who cares what you think. I really enjoyed this episode and liked the idea of how the world would be without the Doctor. One of the best episodes of the series. I also liked Murray's score in this episode.

And I fully agree with Ronnie.

Hamster June 22, 2008 8:11 AM

I wasn't sure what to make of this episode to be honest - overall I wasn't that impressed by it, but it did have some good moments - as Ronnie said, the 'Labour camps' scene was quite moving. I have to say, I'm quite indifferent about the return of Rose, but I am wondering why she seemed to be speaking with a speech impediment that she never had before.

Alexus June 22, 2008 8:22 AM

Apparently Piper had forgotten how to speak like white trash. And she might have had her teeth done.

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 8:25 AM

Hey, if crazy time winds aged Peter Davison 20 years, surely parallel universe winds could uh... effect Rose's speech...? I dunno. Did she have a speech impediment? I didn't even notice it.

Hamster June 22, 2008 8:25 AM

Fair point. It wasn't overly obvious, and for a while i thought it was just my imagination, but other people noticed it too. A small point, but one that niggled at me for some reason

A very real possibility. Clearly being in that call girl thing did some very interesting things to her

Dalek104 June 22, 2008 8:27 AM

Although I dislike the majority of RTD's stories, I actually enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to next week's episode.

Credit where credit's due.

Josef Kenny June 22, 2008 8:27 AM

(she talkd like ths.)

(n brackets)

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 8:29 AM

well she sure did some very interesting things in that series :P

Hamster June 22, 2008 8:30 AM

And how! Perfect evening viewing after a hard day's being lectured

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 8:32 AM

It didn't really help that her first seen client in the series looked exactly like Tom Baker.

Hamster June 22, 2008 8:36 AM

Ha! And there's no doubt a part of the fanfic crowd who noticed and ran wild with it

Would make a lot more sense than a fair amount of other Dr. Who fanfic out there

I really, really do hope not.

Hamster June 22, 2008 8:53 AM

You, me and the rest of the world, my friend

Alexus June 22, 2008 8:55 AM

Belle du Jour was so reactionary.

Ronnie Rowlands June 22, 2008 9:02 AM

Brooker for president.

Jamie Minty June 22, 2008 9:04 AM

Why exactly did they kill the house guy?

I didn't really get why they had to kill him!

Josef Kenny June 22, 2008 9:09 AM

Britain for the British, apparently.

Haha.

Glad we agree that this episode was brilliant then... :P

The moral of the story is that without David Tennant, we'd all be horrible racists.
