Megan's away for a few days with no internet, so I read this to her over the phone. We were crying from laughter.

I believe we are supposed to be over this nonsense, at least he's making an effort and doing something he likes, lets see you post a short story Danny.

Danny, i don't wish to sound like I am having a go at you, but such behavior is remarkably childish, give him credit for at least trying, no need to put the guy down for doing something he enjoys.

Nice to see some creative criticism and credit given to James here, much more mature then others in this instance.

Glad someone here has some sense. My ridiculing of this story has nothing to do with who wrote it. It has to do only with its quality.

I disagree. I am merely expressing my honest opinion of the story. I found it so bad it was laughable. Obviously I'm not alone.

Do you have like some sort of chronic disease that makes you put down everything I do?

I think the disease they have is brain rot, while not a real disease to my knowledge taken out of context it would explain a lot about them, they seem to have forgotten they are nothing special and putting you down does not make them the best human brings which ever lived, puts them down with the likes of Hitler, who also treated others utterly terribly because they were different.

FFS it wasn't an insult. It was just his opinion on the story. To be honest Rat's is far more borderline than Danny's. he just said he and Megan laughed at it where as Rat said "IT'S SHIT" in huge letters. Though even then he didn't directly insult James.

Chris, please read my latest PM to you. This thread is being cleaned up right now.

I do think more constructive opinions should be posted in the future though.

As for the topic at hand. James, I regret to say I see where they're coming from. The story was rather... odd. The melodrama was pretty corny and it all just seemed WTFish. It came out in a "So bad it's good" kind of way. Like Snakes on a Plane.
However, you do have potential. I have a feeling as you get older you will certainly improve. Keep at it. I just don't suggest you post anything here. :P

I read Kody, and i say again that seeing Danny post things like "This is who I want on my Staff." is very hard to take, since we agreed I would come back as a Moderator to try and clear things up, and since he is obviously not listening to me, and appointing people who just follow his ideas is making me wonder why i have even bothered. Anyone who logs onto a forum to read that something they posted is getting laugh at over the phone is going to be upset! To them, thats an insult.

Yes I may be sticking up for James a lot, but what Danny and Rat posted was pointless, childish and not even explained as to why they hated it. It's still a form of bullying.

Danny is the administrator. He is willing to compromise in the interest of keeping this place from going dead but he won't compromise too much. There is what works and what only sounds good on paper. We're trying to get the former here. If we tried to get too much of a squeaky-clean rule in act it's going to burst under pressure into something far worse.

This goes back to my other post. Regardless if one is insulted, if the "insult" does not match the set forum definition of "insult" than it's not the concern of the admin and moderators. It only becomes one if it's posted numerous times or is pretty much only "It's shit". I do feel that there should be an "express yourself and go" rule here.

You know, I really love how you imply that I'm now just picking staff members who agree with me all the time. Frankly, if I were Kody or Superkid, I would be insulted by that. I have picked people to serve on my staff who I believe are responsible and fair-minded, not to mention extremely intelligent. I think it's ridiculously unfair and, again, insulting for you to imply that these people don't have brains of their own and aren't acting in what they believe to be the best interest of the site. I don't suppose it's ever occurred to you that maybe it's you who is WAY the fuck overreacting to all of this? Of course it hasn't. You couldn't possibly be in the wrong here.

Let's have a bit of a reality check here.

The two newest staff members I have appointed are Kody and Superkid. Kody is desperately working to ensure the survival of this web site by being a mature and sensible adult and giving you a hell of a lot of rope here, trying to mediate things rationally and sensibly and taking hours out of his day to try and be overly generous to you and help smooth things over. Even throughout all of this, he is still trying, despite me making his life even more difficult than it already was (for which I sincerely apologize).

And then there's Superkid. Superkid's the one you're really coming down on with that post. The very same Superkid who just made a post in the Improving DSF thread talking about how one of the biggest problems with the site lately was my behavior, and how I needed to clean up my act if things were going to get better here.

So yeah, Chris, clearly you have a good understanding of what the fuck you're talking about, because I totally just go for people who are incompetent morons and just agree with every word that comes out of my mouth. They totally make the best and most fair staff members. :rolleyes:

For the record, it was not my goal to insult Kody and Superkid, and I have already issued them both apologies for that remark.

Also, I am feeling I have been acting over the top, so don't come out with bullshit like I don't think I am in the wrong, I am just very angry with what has happened, whats happened today, and frankly Danny, I have let my emotions get the better of me, because I don't like some of the things I have seen here today, and I am left wonder if what I am doing is making any different, and I am doubting my own ability to help out here, so yes I am angry, I am panicking, I am despairing.

So no, don't think for one minute I am under the impression I can't possibly be wrong. I never intended to start a flame War, or draw others into this mess I have had a part in creating. I know it's too late to change that now, and I also need to calm down. My main worry is that I really do want to help, and i feel that you arn't listening, now I probably have missed something, but it's you who I wanted to show, most of all that things can be better. I am aware that you want things to be better, to change. I guess I feel I'm letting you and everyone down, again. :(

I do have those proposed rule changes I was going to show Kody, but after tonight i am going to spend another day refining, changing and adding to them, i realize now what I did not cover everything and that they won't all work.

I'd be tempted to say that your ability as a writer and your general disposition has more to do with it, but that may be considered ever so slightly insulting, so I won't. Ho hum.

If you really want to post do it when you know you have done something incredibly good, you only get that feeling once in a while whilst making stories!

Whilst disposition is one tihng, and is this case may be considered a fair enough point to make ( No offence James) , questioning ones ability as a writer is quite another, and remember that he is younger then all of us, and writing something amazing, even at his age would be a challenge, I wrote a few short stories at his age I thought was crap, and so did others, and before i started doing fan-fiction proper it went through quite a few versions before i felt it was not as shit as it used to be and others agreed. So I believe as he ages and matures his writing will improve, as he learns what is good and what isn't. I don't think we see many child authors making a success of themselves bar the odd one or two, like the kid who did Eragon.

So the best way i cam sum this up is, James needs more time to find a style which works for him and others, While is story was not amazing and does need some more work, i saw flashes of talent in it and with some more work, and planning it will be better :) I tend to find with my stories I have it all planned out well it advance, I know what I am writing and what will happen. But no harm is consulting others who read it to find out what works best, I still do that anyway.

Like I've said before, the new rules + a place in the forum where people can post their works and only receive proper, constructive criticism should fix most of this. Until then, people need to simmah down. :eek:
