Water and poisoning.

My ex(who is still a very close friend) recently got a Gardasil shot and got horribly sick from it.
Do some research on it, Garasil's been doing way more harm than good. She's one of many.

Her body is reacting as if it were poisoning. I heard that drinking lots of water can help wash poison out of your system. Is this true? I recently told her about that and I'm hoping it works.
(She's taking Motrin to fight it off, or at least make herself feel better for a few hours)

On top of that, does anyone else here know any other ways to counter it? I'm really worried about her.

Jez July 27, 2008 5:28 AM

To be honest, seeing a doctor is probably better than any help we can offer here.

I've heard the same about water but (unsuprisingly!) I haven't tested it out.

Superkid11 July 27, 2008 9:53 AM

She's going to do that on Monday, and she saw a different one yesterday who seemed reluctant to aknowlege that it could have been the shot.

Well of course they'd be reluctant, Superkid. They'd have to admit that they might very well be poisoning the ladies of the world.

Kody July 27, 2008 12:09 PM

That really sucks Super, I hope she's alright. :(

Megan July 27, 2008 4:42 PM

I'm pretty sure constantly drinking water should help to flush the toxins out of her system. That really sucks, though. Vaccines and shots always make me kind of nervous. I hope she feels better soon.

Ross Hendrie July 27, 2008 5:19 PM

My advice is never to be your own Doctor and never try anything that you've "heard about" to cure whatever is wrong. Go to the Doctor and say that it was the shot and there is absolutely no doubt about it.

Superkid11 July 27, 2008 7:40 PM

I agree that seeing a Doctor should be a #1 priority over any seeming "replacement", but I think anything that can be done that might help, unless it's too iffy(and drinking lots of water can't possibly be iffy, it'd just make you have to pee a lot), should be done. Especially for something like this.

My suggestion to her about water was merely a supplement to seeing a Doctor and getting their advice, not a replacement.

James P. August 2, 2008 12:01 PM

I hate shots. I'm squeamish. I freak out over getting my finger pricked because it stings & I'm not the one doing it.

A lot ... and lotta lotta water can be dangerous.

Quite a few people have died because there friends have given them a lot of water when they are drunk ... but thinking about it its probably only dangerous if its in a short space of time!?

Kody August 2, 2008 2:15 PM

You need 8+ glasses of water a day, OD'ing on water would be.. pretty hard, but still.

Ross Hendrie August 2, 2008 2:15 PM

Yeah but advising people to drink lots of water can result in them overdoing it and killing themselves...

Tycho Brahe died of a bladder explosion.

Those sorts of deaths must be horrible for the connected family.

You want to laugh so hard but also cry uncontrollably ... what do you do??

Megan August 2, 2008 5:13 PM

In Maryland a radio show held a contest called "Hold your wee for a Wii" and the woman who won died later that day of a bladder infection.

Oh that status is a couple days old, although I suppose it's still pretty apt. I've just been down in the dumps lately. Feeling lonely and depressed and all that. School's coming up soon and I'm feeling unmotivated and hopeless. :(

The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.
Quote:

Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume more than 3 gallons (10 litres) of water over the course of just a few minutes, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet massive amounts of fluid are still consumed.
Zee knowledge, is power.

It's all fun and games once you leave school, keep the chin up for the future. :)

Talk about it. Day I broke up my nearest department store put up the "Back to school" display.

Contents of display: Smiley Faces, paper aeroplanes, football (soccer), happy school days.

School kids walking past: PISSED OFF!

When do you go back? I'm 3rd or 4th September!

Classes start on the 2nd but I have to go back on the 31st to set up my room and get situated.

I hope school doesn't suck for everyone! ;)

Yeah I hope it isn't all bad for me either. I wish I had the desire to go back to school to see friends, but unfortunately, due to an extremely rough and traumatizing year, I didn't make many. I chalked up a few acquaintances but not much more. I'm mostly excited about the isolation I'm going to get in my single room, free from hassle and the presence of others.

Good luck on your GCSEs. According to Wikipedia they sound like a bitch. I hope you have fun going back regardless of the workload. :)

Thanks it'll be good to get them out of the way and I hope I do good. I'm not normally one for "exam technique"

I'm sorry to hear you had a bit of a rough time! Mind you friends always get annoying at school. Spend all day with them for months on end you want to spread them out a bit I suppose. I've got to say without my sport, rowing, I wouldn't be as confident as I am now. Maybe a good hobby or sport or some kind of continuous social activity can help you meet new people.

I guess we are always here for you and you have Danny too :D

Good luck! Just study hard and you should be fine. Even if you're not good on tests, if you're prepared enough you should succeed. :D

I'm definitely planning on joining some sort of club. I missed the activities expo last year and so I didn't get the chance to sign up for any groups. In college it's really tough to find places to socialize if you don't like partying. :(

School sucks, that's why I was home educated, but I'm starting college in less than a month. I'm looking forward to it a lot.
I've picked up some things, and here's something you can do to make you confidence rise a little. Raise your shoulders, look straight in-front of yourself when walking, and not at the floor, when standing and walking, keep your shoulders back so that you chest raises outwards a little bit. Not abnormally so, but you'd be able to judge what would be abnormal and what wouldn't. And if you find something to smile about, then smile.
Pretty soon, you should be able to pick up enough confidence to start really socializing. I know I have. There was a time when I had more online friends than RL friends, but that's changed, and all since I put all that into effect.
It may be pretty hard to begin with, that's where psyco-cybernetics come in, it's all about destroying paths in your brainwaves that lead to bad habits, and creating new ones that lead to good habits, and it all takes 21 days. If you concentrate on reaching a certain goal, like fixing posture for example, and conciously attempt to fix it for 21 days, it will effectively close off the bad pathways and create good ones. It all takes 21 days, no more, no less. Try it, it's pretty amazing stuff :).

Jamie Minty August 7, 2008 5:35 PM

I know it sounds so ... "parents nagging you" but be yourself I suppose!

Jez August 8, 2008 5:09 PM

Do what Ben said, but don't smilely continuously.... :D:D:D:D

TORTURES of year nine? Years 7, 8 and 9 are the mess about years, Jamie. Year 10 is where the real slogging starts.

I've just been through 10. As hard work as it is, I personally found it a fun year. Got on well with friends and sports etc.

Hated Year 9. Year 8 was the best ever!

Back on topic, I'm delighted to say my friend's gotten much better. Now her red cell count is just really low and she needs to take iron supplements for the next couple of months and she'll be back to normal!

James P. August 13, 2008 4:31 PM

Relieved to hear it Superkid. I wish her a continued speedy recovery. :)
