Downtime event expected in January

I would like to take this opportunity to inform all forum members and visitors to the site that this server and all sites hosted on it will be taken offline for approximately 12 to 24 hours at some point in early January. This is because the place where I currently house the server has twice demanded an increased monthly rate to pay for accommodating the server and it is no longer reasonable to house it there due to the amount of money they are now asking for it. Because of this, we must physically disconnect and remove all servers owned by me and my dad's company from their current location and transplant them to a new location. In addition to this, I have planned some major server maintenance for that day, which will keep it down for several additional hours after the move has been completed.

The sites that will be affected by this downtime are as follows:
  • DannyStewart.com (this site)
  • Mediatrax.biz (HardWire's music site)
  • WebscopeDesign.com (HardWire's web design company)
I am not yet aware of the exact details, but the move will be happening soon. I'll be sure to post more details as soon as I have them available. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

You should burn down their datacenter while you're at it for being greedy bastards.

Indeed. How extremely inconsiderate of them.

Just a reminder, guys, this will be coming up soon now. It may last as long as 36 hours (but hopefully significantly less). Do not worry if you cannot access the site during the day this occurs -- this will be completely normal, and you may not be able to get back on until as late as the following day. I don't know exactly when this will happen but it will be within the next week. Please take note! I hope I can provide enough warning but it may go down without any, so be prepared please!

I'm ready. ;)

Downtime Event... sounds like the name of a Virgin New Adventure

Danny Stewart January 8, 2007 8:33 PM

Well it was, until they postponed it indefinitely. But as I said it's now expected out some time this month. :P

Just a reminder -- this will be happening soon (still). Our dedicated internet line finally got put in at the new location, meaning it's just a matter of physically moving the server now. It will likely happen this weekend.

good job I'm away then, isn't it? :P

Everyone, this is happening TODAY! The forums will be taken offline in just a few hours, so tell all forum members you know or can contact to expect the site to be down for several hours later today! My best advice is to check back tomorrow (Saturday). Thanks everyone!

thanks for the notice, thanks for keeping us up to date where ever possible. I let as many members know as possible.

Well damn. You said it would be the weekend, not Friday! Now that just throws everything out of my window!!

(Joke :P - thanks for heads up :))

Danny Stewart January 26, 2007 4:21 PM

Sorry, Jez. We have an opportunity to do it now and I want to take it. The sooner it's done, the sooner we all go back to normal. ;)

Jez January 26, 2007 4:46 PM

Just to be sure, you did see this bit of my post, right? :D

Should we have said goodbye to our loved ones, stolen the nearest car, and packed all the food we could? Because anyone would think you were telling us the world is on red alert :P

Danny Stewart January 29, 2007 1:25 PM

Well, it was. Luckily the crisis has been resolved now. :P
