Doctor Who 3x05 - "Evolution of the Daleks"

Plot Summary - Written by Helen Raynor
The Cult of Skaro's plan is in full force. Dalek Sec is reborn in human form while the Pig Slaves are launching an enormous assault upon the Central Park Hooverville, along with the remaining pure Daleks of the Cult of Skaro. The Doctor, Martha, Solomon and the others must stay and fight. Time is running out, for the future of humans and Daleks alike is being decided underneath the Empire State Building. Will the Doctor cope with joining an unholy alliance?

Heheh. Bitching Daleks. I like the way that they replaced the Dalek Ray with the energy bursts, I always thought they looked better. I also loved the Tommy Gun shaped Dalek weapons :P

I was a bit dissapointed how this turned out sadly, i really hoped the Cult of Skaro would become re-occuring villians.

I'm glad they're gone. I had grown tired of the Cult of Skaro after two appearances.

I never liked the idea of 'named Daleks'

Danny Stewart April 29, 2007 3:12 AM

It was an interesting concept, and I can understand the motivation behind it. But I never thought it would work long-term.

Ronnie Rowlands April 29, 2007 3:53 AM

Thank heavens then that there is only one left. So he will probably make a load of new ones and they'll keep coming back.

Jez April 29, 2007 3:59 AM

It's a shame they killed off Sec though. It would have saved them paying various royalties to use the Daleks at a later date. ;)

Ben Dawson April 29, 2007 5:54 AM

I loved how Sec gained a sense of moral and justice i.g. "His death was wrong". I loved how he started to really become human, trying to make the new Dalek/humans more human than Dalek, it was a real sign that he had changed a lot.

I thought this generally not too bad, but one of the poorer episodes in which the Daleks have appeared. For a start, they changed the weapons to bursts rather than a beam which is an absolute travesty. I also think they killed Solomon off too quickly, it would've been good seeing more of him in the episode.

I liked the idea of the Dalek human guys, they kinda reminded me of the old brainwashed slaves the Daleks used in that William Hartnell(I think) arc that had the invasion. Also, did anyone else notice that the hand-held weapons they had looked like futuristic Thompsons? I thought that was quite good.

The Dalekanium got me confused though. It came from the casings, right? I thought it was an explosive?

Ben Dawson April 29, 2007 12:30 PM

It was used as both in the classic series, explosive first, then it was changed to being the metal the casings are made out of.

Ronnie Rowlands April 30, 2007 2:51 AM

Uh, Ross, I've already pointed out that the Guns were shaped like Tommy Guns :P

robertbeare April 30, 2007 7:09 AM

Was a really great episode , but the problems are where would they get the materials to build new dalek guns /tommy guns, and the dalekanium just polycarbide plates off dalek.

The good thing about that episode was that the dalek sec was trying to help the dalek race become better but the other :dalek:'s didnt understand shame really would have liked to seen a new dalek race.

Jez April 30, 2007 8:25 AM

Agreed, it would have really made at least one interesting story line at a later date to have the Human-Dalek race causing mischief in the future (the human side will just add to their determination to conquer...espcially as they picked NYers! ;))

Sam Davies April 30, 2007 8:36 AM

It certainly was interesting. I think that the Dalek Sek having emotions ruined it a bit though.

That was kind of the entire storyline. :P

robertbeare April 30, 2007 3:36 PM

The emotions part of it , was the best bit because the daleks didnt understand the concept and thats why they went against dalek sec !

Once again I ended up feeling sorry for a Dalek (though this one was more human than most). Pity to see the Cult of Skaro pretty much wiped out, and its suddenly worrying to think how long it might be til their next appearance, as rumour has it they won't be on next year. :(

Ronnie Rowlands May 1, 2007 7:23 AM

You don't need Daleks in every series to make it good. Tom Baker was Doctor for 7 years, and only had 2 Dalek stories in his run.

Derek Metaltron May 1, 2007 7:28 AM

I'm aware of that, but for the new series its becoming something of a tradition. Still I need a nicer rumour that the original Cybermen will be in full force next year, so we've a silver lining.
