Doctor Who 3x08 - "Human Nature"

Plot Summary - Written by Paul Cornell
John Smith is a schoolmaster in 1913 who dreams of fantastic adventures in time and space - but is there more to him than meets the eye?

Ben Dawson May 26, 2007 2:13 PM

This is the best one by far, of the entire revived series. It's everything Doctor Who should be, scary, mysterious, chilling. Great acting, great plot line.
I'd normally wait until seeing the entire two parter before possibley voting brilliant, but this was truely a master peice.

Ronnie Rowlands May 26, 2007 2:30 PM

Hmm, not as great as it was cooked up to be. I'd have liked to have seen a bit more suspense. But that's my only complaint. The setting was fantastic, and I loved the school setting as well, with all those nasty little prefects. I love things from that era. "Permission to give the boy a beating sir?" Brilliant! Gerald Horan (Ray Butler from an episode of Frost, hehe :D) was superb as Clark! they've set up next week's episode brilliantly. I'm now interested in finding out more about this "Family of Blood" and seeing the Doctor get back to normal. Not so sure about this whole marriage and children thing though :S

8/10

An incredible episode! Everything was superb! I really wanted to give it a 10/10, but I felt I should wait until next week's episode to award such a score. 9/10 from me.

Very very good! I loved the idea of mother, father, son and daughter: A family of monsters! The SCAREcrows made me really shiver! The acting was absoultey great,
I hope the next is as good as the first:D
9/10

Agreed with James -- absolutely brilliant episode, but I'm following my rule here and giving it one less than I feel it deserves, so therefore it gets a 9/10 from me. Can't wait till next week's!

Ronnie Rowlands May 27, 2007 5:38 AM

Isn't anyone else kind of worried about this whole marriage thing?

Ben Dawson May 27, 2007 7:00 AM

Not really, he's human at the minute, he's John Smith right now, NOT the Doctor, just wait 'til he gets back to normal.
Hey, just think, maybe this is what they meant by the Doctor having a son, but it wont really be his, as he is human right now (DNA and everything), so I'm not too bothered about the whole marriage and offspring thing.

Ronnie Rowlands May 27, 2007 7:36 AM

And I wonder if anyone else noticed a MASSIVE in-joke there? When the Doctor is talking about his parents, he says his father was called Sid, and his mother is called Verity. Anyone who can spot the connection wins a prize.

Marinedalek May 27, 2007 10:19 AM

I posted a thread about that on OG within 10 seconds of it being said :P Sydney Newman and Verity Lambert. I claim my prize.

Ronnie Rowlands May 27, 2007 10:30 AM

Ah. I noticed it as soon as it was said too, bit I'm not a member of OG :P

Pete gets my pillow.

Excellent episode 9/10.

Intriguing anagram for "Timothy Latimer" : "THE IMMORTALITY"
also a slightly more frivolous but fan-reference-y one: "RELAY HIM, TOMTIT!"

richardfoxy May 28, 2007 6:29 AM

i absolutly loved this episode, the book was brilliant and the tv adaption even better, can't wait for part 2.

I wonder if RTD would adapt any other books????

Ronnie Rowlands May 28, 2007 6:32 AM

Doubt it, seeing as RTD didn't even write that episode ;)

richardfoxy May 30, 2007 7:03 PM

The bit that gave me goose bumps was John Smith's diary, especially the sketches of the past Doctors

Thought you all might be interested in this. Screen capture from the BBC site.

a first for Danny, calling someone a n00b :P

9/10, although i had to wait ages to watch it thanks to external influence, this was quite well written, i was especially fond of all the refrences to past episodes and Doctors consigned to memory and DVD's, this was quite touching, very well indepth and superbly written, i give it another 9/10 as i feel next week will build up to a big climax.

Ben Dawson June 6, 2007 1:51 PM

Ooh, a big climax? Yep, it does that.
