Which Doctor Who Monster would you like to see back for the 21 Century?

I was reading an artical in TV ZONE Special looking at monsters from teh past to be reinvented for the new series. I would like to see the Ice Warriors back

Danny Stewart June 2, 2007 12:51 PM

I agree -- Ice Warriors would be excellent. Also the Sontarans, Silurians/Sea Devils maybe... Probably several more that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Ronnie Rowlands June 2, 2007 2:00 PM

Daleks, Cybermen, Autons, The Master, The Macra? Surely that's enough for anyone! I'd like to see the Menoptra come back, just to see what they would look like :P

richardfoxy June 2, 2007 2:52 PM

wat about the least favorite creatures like the Macra, the Ood were very similar to the sensorites, could you image the Sensorite being possesed by the beast!

Ben Dawson June 2, 2007 3:02 PM

It maybe be a strange thing to wish for, but I'd quite like to see the Watcher return (who said it had to be a bad guy, but it isn't quite recognizable as a monster :().

Ronnie Rowlands June 2, 2007 3:12 PM

The Ood were more like the Voc Robots if you ask me.

We know nothing about the Master returning as yet. Please stop assuming you know what's going to happen later in the series -- it's very annoying, and I've told you to stop it before now.

I'd hardly call that a "return" of the Macra. You heard the Doctor -- they used to be empire builders. Now they're just car smashers.

Ronnie Rowlands June 2, 2007 3:52 PM

What d'you mean? They were the Macra. That means they came back, returned so to speak? Even if they were only car smashers, they were back.

Ben Dawson June 2, 2007 3:56 PM

I agree with Ronnie, even though they were in a highly dumbed down version.

Danny Stewart June 2, 2007 7:25 PM

I disagree. If the Doctor had said "Zorbitons" instead of "Macra" no one would have batted an eye. While it was cool that RTD name-dropped Macra, that's all it was -- a name drop. There was nothing about those giant crabs that made them specifically Macra... they were just generic bottom-of-the-motorway monsters.

Just like you see every day!:P

Danny Stewart June 3, 2007 12:36 PM

Yeah, well. They didn't need to be Macra, and there was nothing that specifically characterized them as such. :P

I agree. It's like saying the Cybermen made a return in Series One when one briefly appeared in Van Statten's museum in 'Dalek'.

MI7 June 3, 2007 3:50 PM

And saying the Macra didn't return because they were realised differently is like saying the Daleks didn't return in "Revelation of the Daleks" until the very end because they were just pawns of Davros rather than scheming Empire-builders .

Sorry, the Macra came back. And if you don't want to accept that Russell listened to fans for once and brought back a monster that most people had neither heard of nor cared about and instead complain that they weren't proper Macra...I pity you. :(

No, sorry. "Realized differently" is one thing. Betraying (or more precisely ditching) the original concept of the race is quite another. While it was lovely to have the Macra appear, and it was, they were not at all Macra in any sense of the original. If Ian Stuart Black is still alive, he is probably quite disappointed. If he is dead, he is probably turning in his grave. He put some thought into making an original, evil, inventive, conquering monster and RTD turned them into mindless hulks that beat on cars because they gave off heat. James understands what I'm getting at here. They're essentially a betrayal of the original concept, and as I said earlier, there is really nothing beyond appearance (and enjoyment of certain tasty toxic gases) that makes those creatures Macra.

Superkid11 June 4, 2007 10:51 AM

I never saw them in their old series appearence... But it sounds like they were good villains on their own back then. At least they still sucked up gas. :P I just thought they could've made an effort to make them look a bit more alien. They just looked like giant crabs!

I agree, the Ice Warriors should come back. I never saw them either but they look cool(no pun intended...).
Maybe those parasitic wasp things from the Ark in Space too.

Ben Dawson June 4, 2007 1:20 PM

Maybe the Zarbi, that would fly right with me (no pun intended...or is there)...I wouldn't be...Bugged...by it.

richardfoxy June 5, 2007 2:21 PM

RTD did name drop the system where ther zarbi came from twice in season 1, you never know they mite just come back! If RTD is doing earth bound stories then why not use the Siluians and Seas Devils and he should use the Krynoid next year!

Danny Stewart June 5, 2007 5:19 PM

All of those (except maybe the Zarbi) I would welcome a return from.

Ronnie Rowlands June 5, 2007 5:22 PM

Zarbi sucked. And the fight scenes were so false. It was obvious they were trying not to break the damn things!
