What about a web-comic?

I knwo this idea was used in a certain form where we all played Daleks :D But i had the idea today of perhaps combining what we did in Dalek Shorts, taking ST.coms The Trek life, a helping of Cyanide and Happiness and then adding a few spoonfuls of Sci Fi Socety and mixing them all into a web-comic. Where it is us, as humans in some location just going about doing what we do best.

I did have the idea of this being a group effort too. For example, someone would be on plots, another would do the humorous one liners and other dialouge, while one or two actually draw the comics and insert the dialouge and presto! We have a weekly web comic we can put in it;s own forum or something.

I wanted to disscuss this because i feel stuff like Sci Fi Socety and dalek shorts were too good to be allowed to die forever, maybe doing it in a new way might allow them to live on as we work together like the friends we have become. :)

I am interested in thoughts and ideas guys :)

I have software for Mac called Comic Life which would be good for this. Although I don't know who we could get to draw it. There's a girl in my anthropology class who's quite talented at drawing and she does a web comic of her own, but I very much doubt she would be interested in this. :P

I'd give it a shot but I'm not that good of an artist and I do have my own thing to work on... when I get down to working on it. :P

See? That's the kind of priority level people would give our web comic. :P

Things they need to do
Things they really should do
Things they'd like to do
Oh, and that silly DannyStewart.com web comic thing

:P

Superkid11 October 25, 2007 9:41 PM

Put "things they'd like to do" at the top and you've pretty much got how I would prioritize it. :P
I've thought about making a webcomic for my utterly dead forum but alas my laziness is too great.

Lol, perhaps a crate of red Bull might help.

I could very easily come up with plots, since I would assume comics would be at least 3 slides. With a bigger strip once a month or something, I can just dig into old plots and re-adapt them ;)

and of course, characters, for example :)

Danny: Head of DS.com, loves to slip Apple and firefox references into his daily speech, loves Doctor Who
Chris: Moderator, tends to display nothing but mindless optimism, loves Star Trek. Seems unaware of what goes on around him
RV: Always has a joke to say and an anecdote to mention, always makes.
Ross: Loves his War, tends to be more serious then his counterparts but has a sense of humor
Ben: Always has Nirvana or foo fighters blasting from his room, hardly comes out
Ronn: Alternates between humor and seriousness.
Jez: Admin, Dannys right hand so to speak, knows when to bring the gauntlet crashing down upon those who upset him.

Remember, these are just humorous takes on a few of us. I will add mroe once i can find a sentance to sum them up in. Do not take the descriptions seriously. :) Now here are some little plot samples

Episode 1: The team discuss Doctor Who only getting 3 specials in 2009
Episode 2: Danny tries to sell iMacs via the DS.com store, Apple sues.
Episode 3: Ross attempts to get Ben out of his room, RV eats popcorn.
Episode 4: Danny tries to teach Chris about outer awareness, then remembers the house in not insured.
Episode 5: The team attempt to take over production of Star Trek XI.
Episode 6: Danny tries to resurrect Stargate SG1, Chris destroys it.
Episode 7: Ronn goes crazy, Jez loses his Banhammer.
Episode 8: Chris starts a torchwood RPG but forgets where he put the pen.
Episode 9: Everyone turns Dannys room into a Jedi Temple.
Episode 10: The team tries for Ross War reinactment, Ben gets them fighting to Smells like Teen Spirit.

Huh... you know that could actually work. I think the animation would really be the hardest part. James? Is this something you might be up for?

Chris Britton October 26, 2007 5:48 AM

Yeah. The animation will be the hardest part, We could easily supply a photo of ourselves, it's just translating that into cartoony form.

This looks like a good idea! I'm happy to attempt to make some kind of comic/animation, but I can't promise it will come out looking great. :P

Maybe I should look into Flash animation.

Oh, and by the way, Dalek Shorts is definitely not dead yet. :D

Ronnie Rowlands October 26, 2007 2:48 PM

does that mean I can do credits? :-)

No. There's only one name involved anyway.

I have software for Windows called Photoshop that would do even better.

Yes I know Photoshop is on Macs. And no, Photoshop does not count as a game.

Ooh, several problems with this.

1) Photoshop is on Macs, as you acknowledged.
2) Macs run games.
3) Comic Life can turn out a professional result much faster than Photoshop. It's designed for this kind of thing.

It's true, somebody played Quake on their iMac.

Oh god, I wonder if said webcomic would include these OS arguments. I can already see it, bombs flying everywhere and we ultimately realize that, above all else... there is Milhouse.

I made this in Comic Life a few months ago. It took me around five minutes.

Go ahead and make something similar in Photoshop or Illustrator and time yourself. It'll take you at least five minutes just to set up the frames.

Superkid11 October 28, 2007 2:07 AM

Ah, but is drawing possible in it?
