Mac on a PC

While I'm still going to get an iMac, this is pretty interesting:

Off topic but interesting stuff:
And I may just use this for Boot Camp and not worry about that pirated XP I downloaded. :P

1. I'm trying to set this up myself, with help from Danny. I'd advise you to ask him if you have any questions with it, from what I gather he's set up numerous OSx86 machines.

2. ReactOS is, very very very VERY sadly, not exactly usable at the moment. I had a go with it a month or two ago and although it is such a great idea, I found it to be a bit sketchy in places. Not that I'm knocking ReactOS at all. It's one of the best ideas I've seen recently.

I'm definately going to go for it one day if I loose my iMac.
(the only reason I'm worried about the pirated XP disk is because of the parental discovery risk and the fact that it's a pain in the ass to install windows due to the need to install other crap) I'll be sure to ask him about it if that day comes. :)
(assuming I'm not too curious about Linux that day)

2. Aww. Oh well...

While this is fun to play with and I have done it myself many times before, it really only serves as a "demo" to whet your appetite even more for a real Mac. It is extremely difficult to make OSx86 work with all available hardware. Usually some things will just not work no matter what you do (most commonly sound and internet). I have wasted many hours trying to get OSx86 working on various machines. I think the reason Apple doesn't work harder to shut down OSx86 is because all it really does is show people how awesome Mac OS X is (albeit in a mostly buggy state due to it being patched in many places) and make them want to get a real Mac.

OSx86 is definitely NOT for the computer illiterate.

Well, first of all, Rat is definitely correct about usability. While it is a fascinating project, you will be able to run very little on it successfully. Even Firefox has some minor issues, and that's about as simple as applications come.

Second of all, Apple has very strict requirements about what OS you can install using Boot Camp. It MUST be a 32-bit version of Windows XP SP2 or Vista. No exceptions.

Well from what I've heard by the time my iMac's lifespan runs out it may work better. :P (either one of them)

Thanks for letting me know guys.

You may not be alive to see your iMac's lifespan run out. :P
