Virtualbox
After trying Crossover and being left disappointed(It ran Best of Entertainment, but these two Game Maker games I had crashed after loading up. And Jezz Ball didn't have any sound.) I'm considering using my bootleg XP copy after all. :P (immediately destroying it after, and claiming to my parents I used an existing XP CD)
I figured Q wouldn't be up to scratch, but I found out about Virtual Box http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtualBox So far I've read pretty good reviews, and it's free. The only thing that wouldn't be so good is if it couldn't run a Boot Camp partition like VMware can. But it's free, so I can live with that. Can anyone(yes, I honestly mean "anyone" this time, not just Danny or anyone else who uses a Mac here. :P It runs in Windows and Linux too) test it and see if the reviews I've read are accurate? It also seems to support 98, which I've wanted to run if only for the aesthetics. The reason I don't do it myself right now is because I don't have the opportunity at the moment. I need to make sure my mom and dad aren't around when I do this so I can say I used a legit CD. |
*sigh*
First of all, I did try to warn you about CrossOver. Second of all, I really, really wish you would use VMware Fusion. It's leaps and bounds better than anything else available, and if it's a big enough deal for you not to have to use pirated software, then just buy it. It's only $70 or so -- not going to break the bank. Third, I have actually used VirtualBox before, in addition to Q. Both of them lack many features that are important (at least to me) in a virtualized environment, and they also both lack a degree of stability. You will be disappointed with the speed, responsiveness, and features available to you with VirtualBox, as you would be with Q. And if you want Windows 98 for the aesthetics, why don't you just set your XP desktop theme to Windows Classic and change the Start menu back to classic as well? |
I wanted to try Crossover anyway just out of curiosity. :P
I think I'll do that, I just couldn't resist making a topic about it. The theme is a good idea, but ultimately it still wouldn't be 98. ;) I should've said: "Just for aesthetics and for the hell of it." |

Hehe lovely. :P
98 actually does have its devoted fans, though I haven't seen any websites devoted to it so far. |

Well after I got past the installation problem it just ran crappy with no sound. :P
So now I'm installing XP, finally using that CD I burnt a while back. However, I screwed up big time. I guess I left out one of the numbers in the second line of the CD Key when I wrote it on the jewelcase, and I'm pretty much not getting anywhere without it. Crap crap crap... |
