Colin Baker

Hi all
I just was trying fins some Classic Who talk, and thought I would start a discussion here. I really like Colin's Doctor, and I think he is really underrated! Thoughts?

BTW I have a group on facebook that I have just set up in his honour, please join!!

He is the worst of all the Doctors. He was the only Doctor I actually despised.

And he had Mel with him. Together they made the old series almost unwatchable.

I don't really like Colin Baker's Doctor. I thought he was a good character, but he wasn't really appropriate for the show. He was too scary.

Ronnie Rowlands January 15, 2008 11:02 AM

Why shouldn't the Doctor be scary? He has to strike fear into someone. David Tennant tries to be scary and he fails on his big fat scottish fat arse.

Josef Kenny January 15, 2008 11:08 AM

Because if he's scary, people dislike him. The Doctor has to be likable, he represents qualities in all of us, he represents the idea of the "lone ranger" that everybody can relate to in one way. He's the traveler, the story has to be seen from his perspective. He is also (practically) immortal; he is the steadfast rock that holds the show together. If he's scary people lose faith and interest in him.

I disliked Colin Baker too, combined with his campy outfit, poor character and the troubles behind the scenes made doctor who almost unbearable to watch, and sadly it meant when McCoy came in, despite the overall improvement the series was already doomed. from what little i've seen of Bakers time of The Doctor i think they might as well have had Jim Bowen playing him instead. it was a regeneration wasted.

I find it hilarious that you think Mel made the show unwatchable when Colin Baker traveled with Peri for the other 98% of his era. PERI.

5th Doctor January 15, 2008 6:49 PM

are you fan of Colin, Danny?

Peri was a lot less annoying than Mel was.

I believe he was the worst Doctor, but that doesn't necessarily make him a bad Doctor. I quite liked Colin as a person -- I just felt that his era was weak. Not his fault. Personally, I do like him and I wish he had a chance to have a better shot at playing the Doctor.

My ears are what I based my opinion off of. Have you heard Peri's accent? At least Mel talks normally, if a bit squeakily.

Ugh. I hate that kind of accent and that kind of person.

Inversely, I actually liked Adric. So you can safely disregard my opinion as I am quite obviously a madman.

Ronnie Rowlands January 16, 2008 11:29 AM

It was funny when Adric died, particularly when the dying cyberman took a shot at his keyboard, Adric was clearly expecting the explosion :P

Not at all. I like Adric too, and so does my brother, as well as a good friend of mine who has also watched Doctor Who since he was a little kid.

But he was a boy genius,.. Boy geniuses must die. How RV and Danny are still alive I don't know.

tardis2008 January 17, 2008 11:11 AM
