BBC News Theme
My brain switched into random mode today (even moreso than usual!) and this is what resulted:
http://files.marinedalek.co.uk/music/bbcnews.mp3 Synths used: FM8, Pro-53, CS-80v, Drumatic VE, EWQLSO UPDATE: Extended version with extra sparkly bits and louder beeps http://files.marinedalek.co.uk/music/bbcnews2.mp3 |
That's really good, Pete. Except the beeps are maybe not hard enough. Probably because the drums were louder than them. It kinda reminded me of the version Bill Bailey did in his stage show, you seen that one?

It sounds cool, however I must confess a lack of familiarity with the original BBC news theme. :P

Now do the Pokemon theme.
The one from the first series. |
REally well done, sounds very much like the real thing, weird thing is i was listening to it and im sure Recurring Villians Doctors are bopping to it :D

Actually I did just have a bash at the Pokémon theme, but it's very unfamiliar to me (didn't watch the series much, just played the games) and as such very hard to recreate. I'd need to listen to it quite a few times over to start to get the hang of it. Even some themes I know well are hard to do (the top gear theme is a complete pain in the arse)

Note: All based on version 2 of your work
I like some of the stuff you've done here, but to me it's nothing compared to David Lowe's original. That's mainly because I think it's the best musical theme on TV at the moment (and has been for the past 7 years). Sorry, it's nothing personal. ;) The bass synth kicks arse though, and I like your strings The beeping doesn't work as well, although I'm glad you got rid of the "middle beep" from the first version (totally wrong in my opinion ;)). I don't really like the way it changes pitch halfway through a bar. I think in the original, Lowe's emphasism was on the beat, the beep and the drums. That said, the drums are the focus for most of his news themes (He did Norway's TV2 News theme and that also features extreme "drumming" ;)) Here are some audio files for reference. They are the most recent versions of the themes available at the moment. Unfortunately, they're all as .wm(g)a(y) files because I can't be arsed to convert them. BBC 1 News Theme of 2007: http://users.ioncross.com/jez/mp3/BB...07%20Title.wma The intro just explodes....or my headphones are too loud....but it still rocks...in an electronic sort of way. BBC News 24 Countdown 2006 (Three minute version :S): http://users.ioncross.com/jez/mp3/BB...20Version).wma BBC World 2007 Countdown: http://users.ioncross.com/jez/mp3/BB...own%202007.wma BBC World News America 2007 Minimix: http://users.ioncross.com/jez/mp3/BB...%20Minimix.wma Some experimental stuff here, bits of it are quite good! |

I'd rather hear a remix of the music that plays on the "Press start" screen of Pokemon Crystal. So much better. :P I'll try to get ahold of it.
