Not sure about that.

I'm ready to storm Parlaiment already.

Chris Britton February 12, 2008 3:53 PM

Holy S**T. Does it cover limewire users too?

Recurring Villain February 12, 2008 4:34 PM

It would appear so. I'm not sure how they're supposed to detect illegal downloading though.

Yup. I'll probably go to the US, Australia or New Zealand. I better go looking for visas.

They'll just ban torrents altogether or arrest anyone the big media people point the finger at, like toddlers and disabled people who dont even own a computer.

Scratch the US and Aus, the US is going nowhere fast and our (that is, the Australian) government is working on a China-esque internet censorship scheme. I would recommend New Zealand or Canada. Those are two places I'm considering moving to myself.

Call it obscure. How would Japan figure in this at all?

Superkid11 February 12, 2008 7:09 PM

To be honest this seems like an all-talk-no-action kind of thing.

One would hope so.

Do some research and let us know what our best bet is. (Seriously.)

Is limewire still on? I plan to panic download as many songs as I can!

LIMEWIRE!!! You shouldn't be using that in the first place......apart from songs...they're safe. But seeing as you only seem to use it for songs, there was no point in me posting this.
Yeah, this could be bad...maybe we could open up like a stream sort of thing in New Zealand. Could download to a server or something and then leak it back to the UK...of course, it would be well disguised so no one would know ;)...if only.

Just off the top of my head, I'm leaning towards NZ because it's a. not connected to the US and b. I've heard that NZ has one of the most intelligent populations in the world (will look this up later to verify).

On the other hand, I'm interested in working in the games industry, and in Canada the games industry is one of the best (best as in quality) in the world.

I'll do more research and get back to you guys with what I find.

Chris Britton February 13, 2008 8:29 AM

I shall pack my bags then just in case, evolve our community form online to a small village in the hills somewhere.

I hope Limewire is not hit too badly. I use it to get songs as it need to save any money i can.

Josef Kenny February 13, 2008 11:30 AM

My Grandma lived in NZ for a while and apparently it's like Britain except 20 years ago.

Ronnie Rowlands February 13, 2008 12:20 PM

My Great Uncle Ron moved to New Zealand in the 1970s.

Great that innit?

Jez February 14, 2008 10:15 AM

Ok, so here's the techy stuff that I've heard/read etc. over the past few years etc:

Limewire (and the like) = Very easy to detect and determine who is downloading what, when and, eventually, where.

Torrents: Actually the most secure, because there are so many connections and pieces. It's technically extremely hard to determine who is downloading what file and from where.

ISPs have stated that they cannot monitor the data transferred over their network. Whilst I don't believe this, I would expect the question of time required to monitor a single transfer is rediculous.

Oh, and as a side-note this policy is only at proposal stage. Our government are too retarded to consider the technical implications so they pull policies like this out of their arses.

Ross Hendrie February 15, 2008 6:27 PM

You shouldn't be using limewire anyway, it like sucks.

Ronnie Rowlands February 15, 2008 7:26 PM

Yeah I know. Free songs. How gay is that.

As much as I hate to agree with Ross, he's right. Limewire does suck.

Just torrent albums, yo. Usually much higher quality and usually you can pick and choose which tracks to actually download.

Ronnie Rowlands February 16, 2008 6:27 AM

Well 50% of my songs are from Limewire and it was pretty fast and they are of good quality.
