DSF: Where have we come from? Where are we going? What the f**k are we gonna do when we get there?


For some reason, I had the idea of coming up with a definitive list of events in the DS.com forum's lifetime. Having only been active on the forums properly since last summer, I can only put in stuff that happened from then to now, so I would like to encourage that 'pasty-into-first-message' thing. Note: This will probably fail miserably.

2002

- [at some point]: Danny Stewart Forums version 1.0 come online. USS Tetryon starts

2003

2004

- June 2004: Chris Britton and Ross Hendrie join the forums.

2005

- [2005 - 2006]: USS Tetryon ends. Forums may have been inhabited solely by Chris Britton, Danny Stewart, Ross Hendrie, Bajoran Rogue and Ronnie Rowlands.



2006

- [August 2006] Recurring Villain joins. Chris Britton, Jez and Dalek104 become a Moderator and Admins respectively

2007

- [Before Summer 2007]: The great reign of RV as a moderator ends with RV temporarily leaving the forums until mass demand forces his return. The War against the Dolts - The Dolts (Daryl, Sam, some others) vs Danny plus some others. It ends in a victory for Danny and the others.

- Summer 2007: LOTTL leaves much of the community in shock and Danny petitions for it to be erased from cannon. Murray And Keff sigs and avatars run rampant. Chris suggests how to survive a Zombie Uprising.

- Late Summer 2007: Murray And Keff sigs and avatars begin to annoy some members, leading to mass protests and parody. Eventually things quieten down, and people start to argue about the difference between Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox, whether each has a spellchecker, and whether Danny will set up a Teamspeak server.

- November 2007: Superkid11 gets an iMac. Cheers (mostly) all around. Demonoid shuts down, community mourns and rumors of DS.com's move to Sweden are quashed. DS.com Top Gear-style show proposed.

- December 2007: Chatbox returns, meanwhile, snake-fondling. Everyone forgets entirely about Christmas, except for Ronnie, who can't afford a cigar. DSF turns 5 years old


2008

- January 2008: Ben gets an iPod nano, Danny confirms the Wikipedia article for Ethernet Crossover Cable is his favorite place on the entire internet to host files.

- February 2008: Chris Britton starts reviewing games. Ronnie starts doing video rants. Rat has an operation, Chris passes his driving test. Ronnie engages in battles and is banned permanently.

Before Summer 2007:

The War against the Dolts - The Dolts (Daryl, Sam, some others) vs Danny plus some others.

Before that - The great reign of RV as a moderator ended with RV temporarily leaving the forums until mass demand forces his return.

Before that - RV was a mod. :P

Before that - Umm.....loads of people were obessed with Billie Piper.

Ok, thats a good start. Feel free to edit the beginning post if you have a meaningful contribution to make, anyone who can.

I can't believe you missed out the most important one of all.

Danny Stewart Forums version 1.0 come online.

As I said, I wasn't around then. I don't know exactly when in 2002 it happened either.

From a period between 2005 and 2006 it was just Me, Danny, Ross, Rogue and Ronnie.

USS Tetryon ran smoothly until early 2005, then the place became the 5 aforementioned guys :) I also started game reviews in feburary. Speaking of which i have to upload my review of Guitar Hero 3 up.

Me and Ross Joined the forums in June 2004.

...no mention of when I joined. I suppose that's a state secret? :P

I can't remember when you joined actually, but we can check the records. If it's ok with everyone else I will sticky this topic, because a little timeline would make for some excellent reading and should not be forgotten.

What about in 2015 when RV becomes Premier of glorious DSF Soviet uprising, on in 2022 when the forums become sentient and massacre everyone who left the forums?

The forums actually first came online in their original form in December of 2001. Back then it was solely for Star Trek: Tetryon and it ran on an EZBoard, if memory serves. A short time later I bought usstetryon.com and set up an Ikonboard. Then we moved to Invision Board for a while, until they became paid-only, then finally phpBB. Then after a while on phpBB I bought vBulletin and here we are. I think we moved everything to DannyStewart.com right when I bought vBulletin, because I could no longer maintain separate web sites for everything (due to only having one license), so it made sense to combine everything back into the main site and run things from there. Unfortunately I'm less clear on dates than I am general events, but I can try and figure them out if you're curious.

well might I add that Summer 2006 was something of a "New Beginning." Because Jez, RV, Dalek, MI7, Ben, Superkid and Sontaran of Brunei ( <only got the pun of his name a couple of weeks ago:P) all joined around this time. And in 2007 we had several *very* sporadic posters join who only really show up to review new Doctor Who episodes.

And you'd better add something to April 2008, "Ronnie inexplicably returns as though nothing ever happened" :P

You make a good point, as up until then it was just 5 people who chatted about Sci Fi, then the place seemed to be reborn into something even more awesome when all these excellent people joined.
