digsby

Not sure how many of you all use multipile IM programs, or social networking sites and stuff, but I just found something new I thought I'd share for zee hell of it.

I've used Pidgin before to manage my few IM accounts, it's served me very well. A friend demo'd digsby to me tonight when I was at their computer though and it made me give it a shot.. I'm rather impressed.

In a nutshell, you can plug in all of your IM accounts, e-mail accounts and even social networking sites like facebook, myspace, etc, if you use those. You get an awesome menu with a plethora of options and skins, take a look at the screenshots.

You can work with all the different websites from the software and even have popups for when your multi-taksing.. ie: http://img.digsby.com/screenshots/7_popups.png

It's in closed beta now (like these internet closed betas are hard to get into *rolleyes*), but just use the word megaleecher when you install it as the beta key and it'll work. Enjoy. ;)

Sounds rather useful.

I'd give it a try except for the fact that it's probably not really worth the time considering I'm going to be a freaking Mac user within 24 hours.

Ooh, good point. Thankfully they're not going to be stupid and make it Windows only or anything.

I'll keep an eye on that and re-bump this if they get it out sometime soon for all our Mac users. ;)

I had a choice between a Mac with the capability to still run a full-featured XP install or a Dell with Vista on which using XP would cripple half the Laptop's extra functionality.

Besides; my biggest gripe with Apple products was usually the price, but I'm getting my MBP for practically free :P

Oh, and I can't wait to get my quite clean, average sized hands on Logic Pro and Final Cut.

That is assuming, of course, that there isn't already a program that fills the role...

Which makes me think of a question to ask outside this thread.

Definitely looks like an exciting service. I signed up to have them let me know when it's available on the Mac.

The pop up for it reminds a lot of Apple fonts and designs.
