Rules that are broken on a regular basis.

With the new rules topic being posted I have to note that we break them quite often. I think the rules need to be overlooked and rewritten to fit our current situation. Because if we don't do that we'll have to ban or otherwise inhibit otherwise enjoyable members who make recurring "offenses".

We've not needed these rules and haven't punished breaking of the rules because there haven't been any consequences. We enjoyed anyway. Then there was James.

1. Mind your posts. Please be mindful of what you say. Don't post anything that could be construed as objectionable, and avoid excessive profanity.
This is a biggie. We pretty much don't do this at all anymore, and we don't even restrict it to Forum Fun. Shit, we say fuck and shit and balls and bollocks like it's not a fuckin' problem anymore. Damnit.

2.
Quote:

2. No spamming. Absolutely no posting for the sake of posting. Don't make incoherent, useless posts all over the place just because you can.
Last I checked all of us do this. Often. Which usually leads to:

3.

3. Stay on topic. A good post should be kept concise and to the point, and should always contribute something valuable to the thread it's posted in.
Barely any of our topics stay on course anymore. This is one of those rules I think that should be kept, because it can get annoying after a while.

4.

7. No text talk. Absolutely no text talk or instant messenger shorthand. We never want to see "you" abbreviated as "u" or "hate" abbreviated as "h8." If what you're saying is worth hearing, it's worth writing out.
A few of us frequently use it in jest.

5.

8. No personal conversations. Threads can easily descend into meaningless chat rooms, and we don't want that. Take private conversations off the forums, or at least use the PM system.
Same as the off-topic stuff, this tends to happen from time to time. Not very often, but it does happen.

9. No personal attacks. Personal, malicious attacks on members will not be tolerated at all. This is a good way to get in trouble very quickly.
This needs to be better defined, with severity levels, if we're going to keep this rule and RV on the same forum. Granted, RV has never made direct death/rape/stufflikethat threats. Just called people idiots. James has made a death threat against RV...
(sorry James, but you did.)

So that's six rules we've totally ignored since I can't remember.

I honestly can't remember why the hell I posted that rules topic. It was in response to a post by someone saying they couldn't find the rules and I wanted to make them more easily accessible, but now I can't remember where the post was. Ah well.

Good topic idea though SK. :P

Superkid11 May 20, 2008 1:58 PM

Well it's apparently easier to find than wherever the hell the rules actually are. :P

I think this needs to be added:
Quote:

Have thick skin. Just because somebody said something about you or something you've done doesn't mean it's a flame. Criticism is allowed to be harsh here and you will have to toughen up so as not to react badly. Being able to tolerate these people and being able to accept criticism is a vital skill in real life as well as on the internet.
If you think you're being flamed, just report the post and leave the topic. You can rebut criticism but don't try if you're enraged.

Agreed...I've put it in the topic and I'll ask Mr Stewart about it later so he can add it to the proper one. Which is incidentally located at Quick Links (ironically), then Forum Rules. :P

I agree with the breaking of that rule. For example--

"Have thick skin" is BRILLIANT. Good idea.

James P needed that when he joined.

That's why the elephant man was never offended, he was very thick skinned.

Oh my God ... you have to try and get something wrong with everything I say. Thats obsession.

But if you were being serious then ummmm ... yeh!

In that occurance, it was the other way around. What Ronnie said had nothing to do with what you said...

Danny Stewart May 21, 2008 3:33 AM

Superkid's rule has been added.

What are you talking about? Y'see young man, taking that as an insult is a prime example of being thin skinned. I wasn't even talking to you, anyway.

Ross Hendrie May 21, 2008 8:18 AM

Shouldn't Superkid's rule be more of a guideline?

Frankly, no. If you can't deal with the kind of stuff that goes on here, as he says, you're better off not being here. This has been very clearly demonstrated lately.

Jamie Minty May 21, 2008 2:36 PM

I said thick skinned.

I'm used overly used to Ronnie trying to get at me.

Yours sincerely,
ME

That's 3 unfunny attempts at wit from you aimed at me today.

Superkid11 May 21, 2008 2:59 PM

Correction:
That's 3 attempts from you aimed at me today.

And No this is not trying to be "funny"

I just thought you had trouble understanding ... I still believe this.
