Moving

Good! I'm pretty good myself. But, just a head's up for everyone, I will be unavailable in a few weeks because I'm moving. I don't know how long, but I'd guess a few days to a week.

Ben Dawson August 7, 2008 3:49 PM

I feel your pain, I recently moved. The internet connection has only just come back this week. Good luck with the move mate.

James P. August 9, 2008 10:51 PM

Thanks. I would have replied sooner but my internet connection's been on the fritz. We haven't even moved yet. It'll be a while, but sooner or later I'll have a semi-extended absence.

I hope it goes well for you James, I realize how moving is going to disrupt your routine for a couple of weeks, and I am aware of how disrupting an Aspies routine is never a good thing, leaves the mood quite volitaile. Same thing happened to me when I began 6th form. So try not to let it get on top of you buddy.

Please don't refer to me as an "Aspie". I find insulting, frankly.

I'm not that bugged about it. I've been waiting for a change in routine. I need it, the current one isn't helping my psyche or weight. Or my fear of the supposed 2012 thing.

Speaking of that, there's a bunch of reasons why that won't happen:
1. Every generation has an Armageddon prophecy. Remember Y2K? That never happened.
2. It's on the Winter Solstice. I highly doubt the world's going to end on a freaking holiday, especially one so close to Christmas. Speaking of which, that brings me to reason...
3. The predicted date, December 21st, is 3 days away from Christmas Eve and 4 from Christmas Day. One of those is Jesus Christ's b-day, I doubt the world is going to end then. One of those dates is probably important in many other cultures, too.
4. Nostradamus was a hack.
5. There's nothing in the Bible that says "Oh, yeah, by the way, on the 21st day of December 2012, God's gonna massacre the Earth with natural disasters".
6. The Mayans never predicted their own destruction, now did they?

I know, I know. I appreciate his trying to help.

Chris Britton August 13, 2008 8:51 PM

Not trying to cause trouble James, but how come you find Aspie insulting? Aspie is the popular phrase we call ourselves in AS culture. I think of it as a nice little title to show I stand out more :)

James P. August 14, 2008 4:25 PM

But I don't want to stand out for that reason!

It does sort of seem you are saying you aren't pleased with who you are!

Be proud of yourself, everyone is natural, if people don't like it screw 'em! Don't change who you are to the preferred design of others!

Jamie is right James, at the end of the day you are entitled to believe what you think and I respect that. Hell I even thought the same at your age, I had only been diagnosed for a year and I was still under the belief that Aspergers Syndrome was a disease and a problem for me. I've aged six years since then, I've been exposed to Aspie culture, learnt about it, and I have come to revel in my independance, my different perspective on life. I'm proud to be an Aspie and i use that title proudly :)

Maybe it's something which comes with maturity, or as you grow used to it. I don't know when you got diagnosed so I can't be sure. My point of view is that Aspies are different people who don't need to be cured, there are some who disagree with me and I respect that also as there are those with very sever autism who would love who live a life like other people. But I look at people with AS as a cuture, and I am honoured to be part of that culture, that will never change for me :) Which is why I have enjoyed being here and why I like DS.com a lot. Ok there have been hiccups so i don't want to sound hippocritcal, but for the most part I love it here and one reason is because everyone is unique and special, like yourself. :)

I want to stand out for what kind of person I am, not the fact I have Asperger's Syndrome. I was just reading Globe magazine and it negatively mentioned Asperger's. I DON'T WANT TO STAND OUT BECAUSE I AM AUTISTIC! I want to stand out in my personality.

My Personality Traits:
Short Tempered- I am working on this.
Blunt- It's the truth! Isn't that the right thing to do?
Caring- Once you get past my rude, yet surprisingly fresh, exterior, you find a warm, lovable guy who just wants to be your friend!
Annoying- Well, to some people.

Since wiki came up, I figured I would quote the last few lines of the intro ;)

Quote:

Most individuals with AS can learn to cope with their differences, but may continue to need moral support and encouragement to maintain an independent life.[5] Researchers and people with AS have advocated a shift in attitudes away from the notion that AS is a deviation from the norm that must be treated or cured, and towards the view that AS is a difference rather than a disability
I do admit i still need moral support and encouragement, as my self confidence and esteem is low, and fragile. But that aside I do consider myself perfectly fine :)

Uhhh...

My point was that that's a (fairly sizable) part of who you are. Separating it out like that is kind of stupid.
