I'm in absolute shock.

I'd heard she had struggled with leukemia but it's still really upsetting to hear about. At least she appropriately reprised the role as the ships computer for the latest film, I hope they dedicate it at least in part to her memory. My thoughts are with her family, I recall reading how she always attended at least one major convention a year to keep the spirit and franchise of Star Trek alive, an appropriate role for the First Lady of Trek.

It does truly feel like an era is coming to an end, first with Gene himself dying, then Deforest Kelly, then James Doohan and now Majel Barrett gone. All the old Guard are passing on :(. This calls for me to put a DVD of some Classic Trek to remember those fine actors. RIP Majel.

I don't know why this has hit me as hard as it has... but it has.

She's the wife of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, and has turned up in most of the movies and TV series, usually as either the computer voice or Counsellor Troi's flamboyant mother on ST:TNG. She also had a major role in the original pilot episode of the original series, entitled "The Cage" - but for the '60's bigwigs at Paramount, she would originally have been the Enterprise's first officer.
Sorry to see her go, she was a great ambassador for "Star Trek".

Im sorry to hear about this. I echo Chris' sentiment.
