A Christmas Carol + S6 Preview
Any thoughts from Danny Stewart's Forum on "A Christmas Carol"? I liked it fairly well, though I was disappointed at how mundane and Earthly the flying fish looked. The climax was such a farrago of nonsense that RTD must have been grinning in vindication. Singing the ice clouds into smoothness? Right...
Overall, though, I thought the twist on Dickens was very clever and well done, with the most poignant moment for me being the "Christmas future" segment. Michael Gambon was excellent, no surprises there. What was surprising was how little Amy and Rory had to do with the plot. An interesting choice for Moffat but I think it worked out quite well. And kudos for the Star Trek bridge! Now, how about that S6 preview? That looked amazing. Nazis, Musketeers, creepy living dolls, gray aliens, men in black, and the Doctor captive in Area 51! Naked River, a green-eyed Ood, and the dodgy faux-TARDIS from S5! I honestly cannot wait until spring! |
preview was the best part
episode was good |
I liked it. Yeah, the climax was fairly nonsensical, but on a whole, it was good. Michael Gambon was fantastic, I like how the story was refitted for Doctor Who, and the Doctor wearing a Santa Claus hat riding a sleigh with a shark might be one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. :V
The preview for series 6 was nice, too. Can't wait to see it. Though, I couldn't help but think of this when he said "I wear a Stetson now. Stetsons are cool." This "[insert craaaaaaaazy article of clothing here]es are cool" thing of his needs to stop. It's getting old. |
it's not getting old, it's just getting started

you're the kind of person who wouldn't like citizen kane because it was black and white
some things are classic and never get old jumping the gun on declaring something as old is so much more lame than using an old joke |

I agree that the "I wear a __ now" gag is in danger of over-exposure. So far, though, I am fine with it. But at least it's funnier than "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

If it keeps going much past here, though, then it'll get annoying. |
Thought Gambon was the best thing in the episode and the scenes he shared with Smith were cracking. It was an interesting twist on a classic novel but did feel a bit underwhelming for me in partsh. Was not a bad Christmas special by any means though and I do feel Moffat is doing a better job helming the series then RTD has done.
