Ah, I have a similar problem. It's more likely due to the actual line, as well as demand from other users to use that line (unless it's dedicated, which isn't likely as you're not a business - although you Americans never cease to amaze me
).
My connection is fine during the day but from 6pm onwards, although it works, it will disconnect randomly. It's (apparently) due to the demand from other users on my 20 odd house hamlet and, because we live deep in the country, BT can't be arsed to pull their fingers out and fix it. That's why I can't play online games over the net during the week. But I get by.
As for Atomic Wedgie - it's definition has officially been changed by me.
