But I thought my modem packed things up and placed them on a truck that is then driven by my ISP to a stop-off centre, where the packets are then transferred to another truck which might or might not get on a high speed ferry (depends on the locale of the receiver) and which would then go to a final stop-off centre were a truck of the receiver's ISP would pick up the packet and take it to the target modem where it is unpacked.
Unfortunately, during the the whole transportation procedure, especially on the ferry (rough seas), the packets can get lost.
