What isn't acceptable is the fact that it's brainwashed so many poor souls into thinking that that's how the melody actually goes.

It's a damn shame that's happened. What I think mainly contributes to it is that people go:
"Now, the next chord is... Em... so that means that... I play the E minor notes... but ... Downwards! Like this! ... Hmm, that doesn't sound right... I know! Theres another B at the bottom! Oh my god! I can play The Doctors Who song! Hey guys come over here and listen!"
Which spawns a generation of bad MIDI files. The sort that Keff has on his webpage.
