I find that oh so very hard to believe. "Well informed" people know where to source good hardware for cheap and to build their computers from scratch.

What, nowhere in particular? They're a technology company, not a necessities provider; if they **** things up they go out of business and someone else will take their place, either Apple or the Open Source movement. They make good things, and they make bad things. It's the consumers responsibility to not be a brand-worshipping ****tard and buy something just because they like the name of it's provider. View the market as competing products, not companies. Take the side of a good product, not what you believe to be a good company, because no company gives two shits about you. They just care about how they can convince you to give them as much money as possible.

Right now Microsoft have created the best value console of this generation because they're the underdog in the market. I, however, most certainly will not be buying the console they make if or when they're in a position like Sony was post PS3, when leveraging brand power comes first and quality comes second (similar to how Apple has begun to act in regards to their iPod music player), because I don't give two shits about the Microsoft or Xbox brand, I just want to play good ****ing games for as cheap as possible.

And, oddly enough, my Xbox hasn't RRoD'd yet. I must be in the extreme minority, though, right? Because every Xbox360 overheats. My Xbox still working is a fluke. I guess the Microsoft angel is watching over me, because I don't have any problems with Windows either. I should go buy a lottery ticket, eh?

Science forbid that there might, say, be a vocal minority on the internet.

Look at the concept, not the brand. If Microsoft develops this, competitors will develop their own, so it's not worth dismissing just because Microsoft developed it. As a concept, this could turn out very well. Think of the applications for it: You could apply this not only to coffee tables but desks and wall panels. I'd love to have a desk I could draw on, see what I was drawing and have that on my monitor as well. Sure would beat shitty drawing tablets.

It would also take the concept of the object-oriented interface to the max, creating an interface that quite literally any idiot could use. For the young, the old and especially the disabled this would be a huge advantage.

I bet if Apple came up with the idea, though, you'd think it was the second coming, amirite?
