It could be a recursive acronym -- if they don't know what it means, they could assign the "X" to mean "XIL." Like the "XIL Impotence Legion." (Okay, I'm sorry, I just thought that was too funny to pass up.) But I'm mildly serious about the "X" standing for "XIL." Certain acronyms do make the first letter stand for the acronym though -- and it would make sense if they themselves don't know what it means.
EDIT: XIL Imperial Legion?
