Evolution of a mix
I just found something I made a long time ago, and I thought it might interest some people here. I found an old Doctor Who theme remix I did way back in November/December of 2005, called CS-80V Test. The reason this is so interesting is that this mix directly evolved (over a period of several years) into a mix I now call The Zero Room. The Zero Room is probably one of my better Doctor Who themes, so it's interesting to hear where it all started.
Note that I was pretty young when I made this, and I had literally just started making music. I think this may be the first musical project I had ever done, and it's certainly the earliest one I still have saved. I would have been 17 years old when I made this, and I knew literally nothing about properly making music, from both a musical and technical standpoint. (I still don't know terribly much, relatively speaking, but I'm a lot better at audio engineering now than I was back then.)
The first file is the original mix from 2005, unmastered, exactly as I found it. It was made in FL Studio 5, using Arturia's CS-80V soft synth for everything but the sound effects (which came from SimSynth in FL). The second is my current version of The Zero Room, which I just exported today, done in Logic Pro 8, again entirely with the CS-80V and the original sound effects as taken from the FL project.
Enjoy!
