Signature rules
Some people's signatures are too long. What's a good basis for limiting signatures? How would we measure it? Seeing as there is an infraction for signature violations, my infraction finger is itching to use it.

Give people with Signatures that are too long a stern wave of the infraction finger .
Maybe, to all new members, there could be a private message automatically sent telling them the regulations on making a signature, specifically, how many characters it should have. And to older members, maybe this thread might might be able to tell them what the expected limit is to be.

I'm working on a welcome PM system to make sure people are acquainted with the place. But that's what this thread is for -- we need to start writing stuff up in there before I can write a welcome PM or email or anything like that.

This is the general understanding at the forums I co-admin on.
- No Political/religious/derogatory commentary/imagery (as standard)
- No excessive advertising (1-2 links is fine (2 only if one is an image)). Maximum of 2 links per site with no more than three sites linked. However, if 3 sites are linked, only 4 links are allowed. (Blatently, I'm just trying to make life complicated )
- Text should not be 20 lines with 2 lots of the enter button between each one (i.e. text should be ordered suitably)
- Image size restrictions (as in dimensions, not bytes)
- Not too many images in sigs. Any more than four is rediculous (to be frank, having two is plain stupid too).
I don't like character limits in sigs as they don't allow you to express a decent sig very efficiently.

He just kept talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one had a chance to interrupt him it was really quite hypnotic.

Maybe the signatures should be about 250 characters max (and 10 minimum)?
I suppose people with signatures that are to long will proberbly fix it after a message, so maybe that's all that's needed.
And people who refuse, they could sit down in and ejecter chair and get ejected out of the Danny Stewart Forums residence, and then are forced to walk back with a huge boulder attached to their leg .
Are you thinking about punishments if they refuse (or ignore) a request to shorten their signature?

I may use the infraction if they refuse after a PM notice.

I've not been given a PM notice yet...
Do I get rid of that?

No, that's fine, Ross, yours isn't too big right now. Chris, I recommend you move your banner to the top of your sig instead of the bottom. Looks better there.
