OSx86

I'm just about to try to install OSx86. It's quite a long process (especially for me) because I had to 1. partition my external HD to download the ISO on (because I only had FAT32 which sucks because it can't store big enough files) 2. Download the OSx86 torrent onto the new NTFS partition, 3. Burn the ISO onto a disc, 4. Make yet another new partition on the external drive to install it on

The fourth step, is the one that I am on now, which is the dreaded process of installing.

Actually its not that hard, you just wait for about 45 minutes while it copies the files and do whatever it is you do when you don't have computer access (Oi! No laughing at the back), I plan to have a nice roast dinner.

The dreaded process is after you install when you pray that its going to work. And even when it does work you will still probably have no sound or internet, so you have to download drivers, or buy new hardware.

Anyway, I'm off to install now. I'll tell you how it went.

I've had experience myself with OSx86. I think, this year, I've downloaded around four or five different releases of it, burned them all and tried installing them about twice each.

All but two of them never even made it to the installation process. And one of those faced a kernel panic when it attempted to boot into OS X. The one which did work was set to a resolution of 1024x768 (I'm on 1440x900) and had no internet or sound capabilities. It was a shame, but it's the closest I've ever got to OS X in my own home.

Until another OSx86 release for AMD appears on the net, I'm not going near that thing again. It's cost lots of my time and energy, and only left a scar of emotional pain.

Good luck, Rat Souffle!

At the moment I'm not even up to the installation process, I want to install it on a 10gb partition on my external HD but it keeps saying "still waiting for root device". I've looked on the InsanelyMac forums but none of the threads relating to the error seem to be very useful; theyre all post-installation problems but I'm still stuck on installer bootup.
