DannyStewart.com enters version 3

I would like to welcome everyone to version 3 of the DannyStewart.com Forums. With this new version comes a new style and a new layout, and I am very pleased to announce that Dalek104 is now an administrator of the forums as well as our new chief graphic designer. He is responsible for the logo, and a few other things you will be seeing in the coming days.

I hope everyone enjoys the update!

A lot easier on the eyes than the last one. You need to fix up the WYSIWYG editor, though.

Also, a minor suggestion for Dalek about the banner: Instead of a shadow, give the text a Apple-esque reflection like so:

And finally, I finished those smileys. They're attached to the post.

Yes, I thought that too. Great job, I like the banner very much. Good colour scheme too.

I tried all sorts of styles, including that... It just didn't look right. Thanks for your suggestion, though!

Thanks to everyone who likes the new style and logo!

A shadow, however, has the unfortunate side-effect of making it look like you've just discovered blending (and Photoshop, too, for that matter). Of course, the Apple-esque reflection tends to make you look like you've just discovered "Web 2.0".

Try anything like this?

The point was for the text to stand out, and so I applied a shadow (and an outer glow). Just because a reflection may look nicer than a shadow doesn't mean I have to use a reflection for everything. A reflection just wouldn't work in this design, I'm afraid.

Besides, the members seem to be happy with it how it is, and that was my intention. Simple is good.

it's looking good, if there is one thing I'm not too keen on, it's the black layout, it just looks too unfriendly in my opinion. Anyway, aside from that, good job.

umm. OK. It's...black. there's nothing seperating member's posts, and that's confusing for me. And I can't seem to find the "new posts" page.

Since we previously had a bright design, we decided on having a darker design, which is also much easier on the eyes. It is a mainly blue-based style, but also contains some black, as you know.
Posts are quite clearly separated.
Please wait for the New Posts, Search and Rules pages, as I have to design the buttons for them and then Danny has to apply them to the navigation bar at the top. Thanks!

I actually find the black heavier on the eyes.

I like it, looks good. The darker shade is easier on the eyes, agreed.

And congrats Dalek104.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Dalek104 is correct about the Search and New Posts buttons. I will restore their functionality just as soon as possible.

the old look wasn't garish or difficult to look at. at all. it wasn't a bright white, it was beige. I don't recall anyone ever complaining of blindness from the old look.

Of course, no one complained about the Chestnut design. But after seeing this new style, it is easy to realise that this is much easier for the eyes than its predecessor. And that should be better -- We don't want Danny responsible for the blindness of us poor members.

but it wasn't damaging to they eyes. I don't look at it and think "damn, I can see everything now, I realise how garaish the old one was." the old one was fine to me. can you do anything about seperating people's posts better?
