Death Note
I think I should start a topic on this right about now.

The reason I put it in here is that Death Note is both a comic and animated cartoon. (Manga and Anime, respectively. I realize most of you already know that but I couldn't help myself) A lot of people say the manga is better, but I've so far only seen the anime. In a word, it's excellent. It does follow some of those anime tropes we all know and love, but it's done so well that you don't notice them most of the time. It also has a penchant for making something so overly dramatic it's hilarious. (Like Light eating a potato chip)
Despite what the weeaboos and purists will tell you, the english dub of Death Note is actually very well done, though that's how I look at it. Watching the english dub should be almost no different to watching the subbed version, the only problem is the whole series is available subbed, where the dub is about half way through. You could also read the manga, which is finished and translated completely.
I'd love to put up a longer review but I can't. I haven't actually seen the whole thing yet since I'm following the english dubbed version. Though I have nicely spoiled the ending for myself.
If you're interested in getting into it, here's a wikipedia article right here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Note
And here are two reviews you can look at:
http://seberin.blogspot.com/2007/12/...an-sucker.html
http://sleepisfortheweak.org/reviews/micros/deathnote
Beware of spoilers on all of those.
And if you're already watching it, feel free to post your opinion and your own review. Except you RV, we already know you hate it.

I hate to steer this thread so wildly off topic so early on in the discussion, but I swear it's somehow related.
Superkid, do you use any kind of internet chat technology? I would be interested in discussing certain things with you if you did.

Text or vocal? I do have Adium, but I rarely get on it because I seem to dislike getting into chats with people unless they're my girlfriend. I used to have really long chats with my cousin but now I seem to avoid getting on Adium for that sole reason.
Despite how I act on the forums, I'm afraid I have an awful anti-social streak when it comes to online chat. I think I have to be reeled into it, like on a chat room or something, than to conciously do it. Sorry. I may get over this eventually.
... I also have Ventrilo, but the same thing applies. And iChat of course.

Well, I meant text, not vocal. And I was referring to a protocol/service, not a program. AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, etc. I use AIM and Google Talk myself.

Oh, ok. I use an AIM account with Adium. ... that's pretty much it. I THINK I have ICQ but I can't remember anything about my ICQ account.
Anyway, I actually do like the idea of talking with you over that sometime, it's just figuring out when and how long.
Back on track, have you seen any more of the series than you already have? How much have you seen so far?

Yeah, ICQ is pretty much a dead standard these days I think. It used to be popular but it's not anymore.
Contact me on AIM one of these days if you like. (There's a handy little icon above this post.)
