"Sealing the Void" - Version 2

I watched "Doomsday" twice this week, which is two times more than usual, and after hearing Murray Gold's ending piece twice more, I decided that my old version was sounding quite dated, and not very representative of my current musical skill. Unfortunately, there was no easy way to redo it, considering the original was done on my Mac and I wanted to redo it on my PC (where I have a far better soundset). The programs are not compatible, and the Mac cannot even export MIDI, so if I wanted to do it at all, I was left with one choice only -- starting completely from scratch.

With some time tonight, I decided it was worth it, so now, please allow me to present my brand new, completely redone from scratch "Sealing the Void" version 2. I hope you all agree that this sounds much better than my previous attempt, and I also hope that you all enjoy listening to it!

that's REALLY good, it sounds much more...realistic, less electronic.

Sounds a bit too Yamaha-ish for me. Good impression though.

(I never heard your first version so I can't compare the two)

Edit: Actually No! It reminds me of the original style of music seen....heard in Metal Gear Solid (1) (by Tappy, among numerous others). It's not so bad!

Edit II: It wasn't Tappy (she did the main theme). But it still reminds me of some of the BGM from MGS.

I'm happy that Dalek104.............oh, I'm full of despair, I'm in despair because I had a whole thing wrote about a thousand pages long about happiness and then pressed the wrong button and deleted it and filled me with despair, I'm in despair because there is no way of getting back the deleted words which made me fall into despair, and I'm full of despair because I have to write all this about my despair, and I'm full of despair because of the thought of trying to type another message with the same long speach about happiness which has absolutely nothing to do with despair.................HEY, this is about the same length as my original happy message...that makes me happy

Yamaha-ish? *sniff* What sounds Yamaha-ish? The voice was done from a professionally-sampled orchestral library, and the bass, while not perfect, isn't that bad. Although Yamaha manufactured the great CS-80 synthesizer, which produced Peter Howell's awesome bassline on his Doctor Who theme, so maybe I'll take that as a compliment.

Lol, you know it'll only get worse.

I just don't think that the orchestral library was that professional. It sounded too fake for me to call it professional, lol. The bass didn't really resonate with me on either side of the good/bad scale.

(I was just desperate to use "resonate" there)

Yeah, Casio's crap generally. Although my first keyboard was a Casio and I still like it. Not that great but fun just to play on.

And *gasp* you insult the orchestral library currently used by the great Master Dominic Glynn himself! For shame. I cannot speak to you anymore. He recommended it to me personally and I have completely fallen in love with it. It's by far the best orchestral library I've ever used -- even HardWire far prefers it to the one he used before on Good as Gold after I passed on the recommendation to him!

Besides, the voice was the only thing from the library (aside from the drums and piano). The bass was from the somewhat crappy FL Slayer. And the voice is a professionally recorded female singer, and upon comparison it sounds quite close to the singer Murray hired, which was nice. Honestly I have no idea what you're talking about, and it makes me sad.

. I like this much more than the first version (not that the first was bad or anything). My only recommendation is that the percussion in the second verse sounded a little better on the original, and were more noticeable. The voice on this sounds good obviously the pitch changes are a little more sudden and unnatural than a "real life" singer though the only way to rectify this would be to record a real singer

, which is out of the question obviously.

I'd give this a 9.5/10.

It sounds a tad too set up. It's not a live recording of a singer. It's a recording of a singer singing "ooh" at various pitches (or maybe at just one, although that's not likely if it's professional).

Don't mind me, I just preffered the original, lol. Besides, it's a spot on impression of it, tune wise.

Thank you, MI7. I can apply a portamento-like bend to the voice but that sounds even more unnatural... almost creepy. I'll take a look at the percussion for you and see what can be done about sprucing it up a bit.

No, it's definitely at a whole bunch of different pitches. And to each their own. P.S. Go out and hire me a real singer. I'll PM you my address.

I just discovered this by accident whilst wondering round the forums and... Wow! A nice improvement on the original. It's "oohy"!

I don't have a critiscism for this one either! It's still repeating away on my Windows Media Player as I write this and it has been for at least the past five minutes. Once again, great work.

Ok, no problem. I'll expect a transaction into my offshore accoun; half now, half on completion of the job, that equates to the cost of hiring the singer, the cost of the production work (I can get a recording studio for free), pluse other expenses as well as an additional 25% of the final expenditure for my work.
