Out of all the Star Trek series, what's everyone's favourite overall episode and why?

Mine would have to be Skin of Evil. I think Armus is a brilliant creation, which still looks good all these years later, and I particular like the way Picard deals with the situation. His comments about 'true evil' are brilliant.

Ouch, that's a very tough question. I'll have to get back to you on that. There are a lot of real crackers out there, but choosing between them is gonna be hard.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's "Sacrifice of Angels." You name something that can be good about an episode, and it excels in it.

Haha, you mean the Original Series episode "Spectre of the Gun"? That was the very first Star Trek VHS that I purchased, many years ago now.

Other than that I've seen the old series episodes "The Balance of Fear" and... er... that thing with those fuzzy things called Tribbles. I liked that one.

I think you mean "Balance of Terror" and "The Trouble with Tribbles."

One thing that I never bought into with First Contact though was the Borg Queen, which I understand became a mainstay in Voyager as well. I always liked the Borg for being components of the same driving force, with no individuality.

There's something really strained about the direction and performances as well, I think. Looking at it again recently I found again that I didn't buy into Picard's mental collapse as he's reliving his nightmares. Patrick Stewart seems very mannered throughout. Like when he says: "That's what they came here to do – stop First Contact". It doesn't sound natural, it's like he's reading it cold. And his: "A line must be drawn here" felt very inauthentic to me. That's the only time I haven't believed in his performance in the entire series, and I still find it puzzling.

Aside from that the action is immense at the beginning and the Borg are particularly scary and menacing when they're repeating their usual creed over subspace. The new Enterprise is also a real favourite of mine because I like the way it harks back to the old Constitution-class style of the Original Series. My favourite bit in the whole thing is Picard ordering for quantum torpedoes to destroy the Borg sphere. Love that bit.

I dunno. As I said I don't know the names and I've only seen episodes that have been on TV now and again. Can I ask, do Star Trek fan's find the term 'Trekkies' offensive.

I don't really. Some people do. They're usually thrown around by ignorant people so I don't take offense too much.

with that question, I have another, is "Trekkie" more offensive than "Whovian"? I'd be quite proud to be called a Whovian though.
Anyway, back on topic, I was just wondering, what episodes should I look out for?

I loved "were no-one has gone before" from the next generation series 1. I just love all star trek though.

I think I've seen Deep Space Nine a couple of times although it might have been something else.
