Torchwood 2x10 - "From Out of the Rain"
"From Out of the Rain" by P.J. Hammond
After the old cinema "Electro" re-opens, the old scenes of a black and white film are interrupted by mysterious sequences which show a travelling company in the early 20th Century before the age of cinema.

Haha, except "Fear Her" was written by Matthew Graham.
But yeah, this one was pretty weak. I have to say, P.J. Hammond is supposed to be some kind of respected science fiction and fantasy writer, but neither of his episodes (he did "Small Worlds" last year as well) particularly grabbed me.

It still reeks of the same nonsensical pseudoscience, except this one is arguably worse because instead of offering a shit explanation, it offers no explanation at all.

I highlighted his problem. Fantasy writers aren't bound by any kind of laws when they write; wheras sci-fi writers have to, at least, have passed third grade science, to be taken seriously. Only RTD would hire someone who sucked at science and storytelling.

You're exactly right. I didn't really think about that, but you're right, both of his Torchwood episodes feel way more like fantasy than science fiction.

Yeah. There's also that faerie episode, which pissed me off as well. They both try to pass off such un-Torchwood-ie things as huge threats, which is almost comedic and rather painful to watch.
Keep it science fiction plz. Torchwood isn't the X Files.
