Apparently not now.

You did bring it up, however.

Racial pride never made sense to me. What's wrong as long as he gets the accent right?

That's not the same, if it had been a Chinese actor playing a Japanese character or vice-versa it might be similar. But you clearly just don't understand.

Actually I think I do. Sulu was meant to represent all Eastern Asians on the Enterprise, Japanese, Chinese and Koreans for example. I felt that Scotty represented everyone British on the Enterprise, so I am quite fine with Simon Pegg playing Scotty, he is representing me and you and specific nationality shouldn't matter.

Speaking of Sulu.........I'M A CELEBRITY, GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!
Yeah, even though I've never really watched Star Trek, I think I'll still give this movie a go.

That strikes me as odd. After all, they're on the same landmass...

...then again so are northern and southern Ireland...

There's a difference between not understanding and not being blinded by some delusional sense of national pride. We understand it alright, we just don't follow it.

We're all the same species. A country is just lines in dirt. Considering we have the ability to communicate instantly across the planet and travel anywhere on it in less than 20 hours, racial or nationalistic pride today is really nothing more than a useless relic of the past. We're one global community now. Learn to deal with it.

If he was supposed to represent Japan, they wouldn't have called him 'Sulu'... There is no 'L' sound in Japanese.

Bam. RV pwns again. I'm just going to start quoting his posts without adding any noteworthy response of my own to reflect my concurrence with his statements.

I hate to sound annoyed Ross but in that respects Simon Pegg is part of the British community and your not being very nice to him even though he will never read this, matter of principle. You can hardly call RV out on what is an excellent point.

I am pointing out how if RV believes the whole world is a community, then why isn't he nice to everyone? Even James, no matter how much of a n00b he is.

Anyway, this is being blown completely out of proportion. I am not out to assassinate Simon Pegg just because he has been cast as Scotty... It's more a case of mild irritation than intense controversy.

I call bullshit. Show me where niceness or kindness enters into the definition of "community."

1. a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.
2. a locality inhabited by such a group.
3. a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists (usually prec. by the): the business community; the community of scholars.
4. a group of associated nations sharing common interests or a common heritage: the community of Western Europe.
5. Ecclesiastical. a group of men or women leading a common life according to a rule.
6. Ecology. an assemblage of interacting populations occupying a given area.
7. joint possession, enjoyment, liability, etc.: community of property.
8. similar character; agreement; identity: community of interests.
9. the community, the public; society: the needs of the community.

Everyone gets along only in a perfect community. The entire world, as a community, is incredibly fucked up.(well, fucked up in many other ways too) But that's still what it is.

EDIT: LOL DISREGARD THAT. Danny's got the real definition.

Inside a prison, the inmates are the 'prisoner community'. So, using your logic, everyone inside a prison must do knitting all day in between tea and slumber parties.

OH WAIT NO THEY DONT THEY RAPE EACH OTHER IN THE SHOWER.

Seriously, what kind of fucked up dictionary do you use?
