Pete's Thread of Randomness

Right, this is the thread where I predict that I will post around 20 different projects, all half-finished and probably very random!

I'll start off with a short mix inspired by the funkiness of the Album version of Murray Gold's theme. Basically I decided to to an alternate version of the Gold theme with different strings and a subtle roving bassline added over the normal one. The bassline is c/o Danny's infinitely talented brother Ian, and the orchestral elements were sequenced in FL studio using EWQLSO Silver Edition.

Hope you enjoy!

Nice work so far - though the Album version has a bit of a higher pitched bridge section .

Interested in seeing what you have next.

Well I did say "based" on the album theme Thanks for the kind words anyway!

Here's a little Christmas card of a theme - Merry Christmas to you all!

Wonderful work...would work quite well as incidental music actually in a Doctor Who Christmas Special actually.

Can I just suggest that you get a Filexoom account like I use, that way your work will always be available instead of having to rely on your website I had to wait a little while for it to work for this.

Pete takes pride in his web site. I doubt he'll host his files anywhere else, just like me.

Well, I've yet to be able to download it so Pete may have to consider using FileXoom at least as a back up (or mirror, I guess) link.

I've recreated one of the cues from Torchwood... well, a bit of it. It's played in Episode 1 twice - once when Gwen's trying to sleep and can't, the other when she's waiting outside the Millenium Centre in Cardiff bay. I've decided to call it "Mystery" because it's mysterious.

I used FM8 for the bass, and EWQLSO for the piano and strings

Yeah nice work there Beethoven.

The cue itself is a great recreation though - I had to go back and watch the episode to know which you were referring to though .

Recreated another, longer cue from Torchwood - the funky one from the first episode that plays when they first arrive at the murder scene, and when you see Jack standing randomly on the tall building.

I've called it "Who Is Captain Jack?"

http://filexoom.com/files/2006/12/17/49066/wicj.mp3

I used EWQLSO, Minimoog V, FM8, CS-80V and two samples from http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/ which I treated to make the "aaaaaaaaH" sound and the crashing sound heard most prominently at the very end.

Edit by Danny: By the "aaaaH" sound, he means the Torchwood sting.
Edit by Pete: Which I'm sure makes it all a lot clearer...

My favourite cue, thanks a lot! This will come in rather helpful .

Very good! Excellent!
How long did this take you to make? I'm always interested.

"Mystery" took 2 hours or so to do. "Who is Captain Jack" took about 5-10 hours (I started it in the early hours of this morning)

Glad you like them

Well, after a long period of calm and serenity, here's some randomness for you. It's a recreation of the regeneration music from the beginning of Castrovalva. I used ACID again, CS-80v for the majority of the sounds seeing as this is almost pure synth, FM8 for the bass guitar and EWQLSO for the drums and cymbals. Enjoy!

I've been sitting on this for a while, but now I've remembered it and decided to post it. It's a remix of the theme using quite a few old elements in it, but you have to wait a bit to hear them in full... enjoy!

P.S. It's called Time Warp - you should be able to work out why...

This better be worth my pausing of the Rhythm & Blues and Lounge-Rock music session I seemed to have had going on.

Before: Time Warp? Rocky Horror Picture Show?

After: I'm disappointed that it wasn't the Rocky Horror Picture Show "Time Warp".

Luckily, I still enjoyed it. Some of your synths are very nice, and I liked the sub-melodies you had complementing the main ones.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

I've made another mix, this time a prospective opening title theme for a Flash Doctor Who series being made by a guy on OG - I ran it off quite quickly this evening, hope you like

Haha, that reminds me just slightly of the Doc Who Confidential music. Probably the electronic-style percussion.
