Doctor Who 5x08 - The Hungry Earth

Sorry I'm late, moved to an apartment this weekend (where there is no internet yet).

Also, this was like an old series episode. Seriously.

Yeah, a not very good old series episode.

Meh, it was okay. Yeah, let's set up a whole security network in 10 minutes and carry on using the sonic screwdriver as a magic wand.

Actually it was quite good apart from that.

The time limit? Okay, bit of a stretch. The concept, however, I liked, and I didn't feel that the sonic screwdriver was particularly abused.

no it just hacked a whole computer network in 2 seconds

also they've screwed with the silurians. if RTD did that you'd go nuts.

I need to watch it again but I don't think it was out of place.

No, actually. This is a different offshoot of the same ancestor race, so they can be different. I also noticed that they were careful about using "Silurians" to describe them. As far as I recall, they were only called "Silurians" once. The Doctor prefers to call them "homo-reptilia."

and Chibnall/Moffat deals with this threat to the human race better than RTD ever did. Instead of pandemonium in the streets, UNIT bursting onto the scene with Martha Jones leading the troops from astride a big fuck off helicarrier and those bloody world news flashes, we get three people in a cramped, dark church being told, "The only way we'll prevent a war is if you're the best bloody humans you can be." Or whatever. much better i find

Well, better late than never I guess for somebody to see/agree with my perspective on RTD's stories.

I reckon they look like humans because the Silurians used the dead (and otherwise) human bodies they stole through the magic dirt in some way to make up their numbers (thus the autopsy on the guy etc). If they weren't some kind of lower class freaks they wouldn't have to wear masks that look like actual lizards. I reckon they're all slaves of the real Silurians who actually look like lizards. At least, I hope they are. Because if the Silurians have been "updated" to look like people in face paint, then that, along with the cheery new Dalek flavors, are two classic who villains Moffat has ruined.

This season is still stronger than any of the last ones, but damn Steve, fire the art department.

Not sure about that.

Like the idea, but would they outsource further experimentation to their experiments?

Do you remember the original Silurians? They had a bloody ray gun as a third eye ffs. If the Moff or RTD did that you'd be fuming

Well, I certainly wouldn't be fuming if they'd kept it from the original. I actually had no real problem with it in The Silurians.

But the point is moot because it was there in the original.
