My feature returns once again (hopefully for good this time!).
Elton John – Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (from
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, released 1973). (10.0MB - MP3 @ 128kbps)
Not many people don’t know the name “Elton John” (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, “Reg Dwight”). This guy has had a string of top ten albums as well as a good number of successful singles.
Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is considered to be one of his greatest pieces. The first part of the track (Funeral For A Friend) is a brilliant instrumental section which is believed to have been created whilst John was thinking about the type of music he’d like at his funeral.
Before you know it, the brilliant instrumental is over and the second part of the song, Love Lies Bleeding, begins, with John giving a good performance vocally, whilst the band still impress instrumentally.
Although too long, at 11 minutes, to be released as a single, this song got a great deal of airplay at the time and it’s still a favourite today.
